This is a great opportunity for an experienced waste management professional to strategically lead on all aspects of sustainable resource use across two of the biggest and busiest NHS Foundation trusts in the country.
Guy's and St Thomas' and King's College Hospital have respectively published their Sustainability strategy and Green Plan in 2021, clearly outlining a roadmap to more sustainable healthcare and meeting the Net Zero NHS targets. The Trusts’ ambitious missions in sustainability focus on three strategic themes: Carbon Zero, Connecting With Nature, and Cycle of Resources. The post holder will lead on the implementation of this third strategic theme - Cycle of Resources - including a strategic programme of works to reduce waste, increase reuse and Recycling and move to a circular economy model of resources wherever possible.
The post holder will report to the Associate Director of Sustainability and line manage both the Guy's and St Thomas' and King's Trust Waste Managers.
The post holder will be responsible for overseeing operational waste management, reduction, recycling, on site waste collection and disposal activities across King’s College Hospital and Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trusts, providing value for money and excellence in service provision.
The post holder will define and set common service levels and participate in the preparation and updating of the individual Trusts’ strategies and policies and staff training for its waste management and environmental services.
They will take a lead role in the coordination of the Trusts’ reduce, reuse and recycling work streams supporting the delivery of a “Net Zero” NHS system by driving improvements across the sustainability and Waste management portfolio including but not limited to behavioural change, training, waste segregation, optimisation and reduction, procurement and communications.
The Recycling and Waste Resource Manager role sits within the Essentia Directorate working across Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust and King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.

Guy’s and St Thomas’ sites are St Thomas’ Hospital, Royal Brompton Hospital, Evelina London Children’s Hospital, Guy’s Hospital, Harefield Hospital and community services in Lambeth and Southwark.
King’s provides services from King’s College Hospital Denmark Hill, Princess Royal University Hospital, Orpington Hospital, Queen Mary’s Hospital Sidcup and Beckenham Beacon.
