Job title: Regional, Health, Safety & Security Manager
Based at: Cheltenham Racecourse
Contract type: Permanent
Hours: 37.5 hours per week
About the role
We have a fantastic opportunity for a Regional Health, Safety & Security Manager to join our Operations team based at Cheltenham Racecourse - home to The Cheltenham Festival, the pinnacle event in British Jump Racing and one of the largest sporting events in the UK.
This role will provide the overall day to day responsibility for the operational delivery of the security/stewarding/crowd medical provision for racedays and conference & events as well as being the site champion for Health & Safety.

The Regional Health, Safety & Security Manager will
• Carry out the role of Safety Officer for race days within the region.
• Attend the Safety Advisory Group Meetings for all regional courses, delivering to them the contents of the Emergency Plan, the Event Plan, the Medical Plan, and the event Risk Assessment.
• Be responsible for ensuring each courses Operations manuals are kept up to date, current with relevant legislation and any changes are communicated the Safety Advisory Groups
• Lead on emergency planning desktop exercises and the annual benchmark Health, Safety and Environmental audits/actions
• Undertake the annual risk assessments ensuring all relevant activities have a suitable risk assessment in place.
• Ensure good relationships are maintained with the local counter terrorism teams and appropriate counter terrorism measures/policies are in place.
• Be responsible for all Security and Stewarding contracts on site, working with Operations departments to developing deployment schedules for all events, as well as ensuring day to day security is maximised.
• Act as the lead contact with the crowd First Aid and ambulance providers, ensuring that suitable numbers are present and that medical provision for events is of the highest possible standard.
• Ensure that all race days, conferences, and events conform to the legislation and standard practices as set out in the current Premises Licence under the Licensing Act 2003 and to form the necessary documentation for the submission of the licence to the Local Authority.
• Liaise with the relevant authorities to manage the renewal and implementation of the Premises Licenses for alcohol and gambling, the Safety Certificate, and the Health & Safety Policy.
• Ensure that all race days and events at the racecourse adhere to other current licensing, health & safety and other legislative control that impact on the event industry and stadia management and compliance to the Green and Purple Guide.
• Be the site champion for Health & Safety, ensuring every aspect of the racecourse’s operations have been effectively and diligently risk managed.
About you
• Knowledge of health and safety planning and implementation
• Proven experience of Health and Safety role within a commercial environment.
• A leading communicator comfortable of influencing a wide range of stakeholders.
• A proactive approach to work with ability to provide solutions to problems and see them through to fruition.
• Confident establishing and maintaining a positive and productive working environment with close working relationships.
• An excellent organiser with great planning skills and outstanding attention to detail.
• Level 4 NVQ in Spectator Safety qualification
• Experience of crowd flow dynamics
