Job description

Sanctuary Personnel, an innovative and committed recruitment agency, has a new permanent position available for a Registered Manager/Head of Care to work full-time based in a Children's home in Derby.

The salary for this permanent Registered Manager/Head of Care job is £44,000 - £54,000.

Main Duties:

  • To lead the children's home and provide direction, guidance, support and leadership to

all residential care staff in their delivery of a coherent care service in accordance with the principles and values contained in the School and SENAD Policy Documents and in

accordance with regulatory requirements

  • To model best practice approaches and support staff and managers through challenging

episodes with children

  • To be the Registered Manager for the School's care provision with OFSTED
  • To be an effective member of the School's Senior Management Team and to represent

The care provision as appropriate within this arena

  • To be a Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) within the home

Requirements of this job:

  • To ensure that the social care policy framework which sets the principles and values that the school works within are up to date, represent best practice and are inclusive and reflect the diversity of the school's residential community
  • To develop, regularly review and update all Care Policy documents as required by current legislation and in accordance with best practice. Ensure these documents are followed and understood by all relevant staff and implement training programmes where required
  • Establish methods and measures to evaluate the quality of Care provided for the children and young people. Make improvements as necessary and strategically manage a process of continuous improvement for the service provision
  • As a skilled practitioner, model best practice approaches to working with vulnerable children who can challenge a service
  • Ensure an effective and regular system of staff debrief and support following testing

interactions with young people or families

  •  Participate in the Review, Assessment and Transition process for all children within/due

to arrive within the School and coordinate the care department's role within these.

  • To regularly review the residential care staffing structure to ensure it supports the
  • dynamic demands of the service and budgetary requirements
  • Participate in the development and monitoring of pupils' care plans
  • Ensure that social care practice reflects the equality and diversity needs of the residential pupil community
  • To co-work effectively with the education team, health and therapy specialists to provide an integrated support programme for young people
  • Responsible for following the SENAD Recruitment & Selection Policy and Procedure, and working closely with Human Resources in all staff issues
  • Responsible for the management of residential and health teams in meeting the
  • Children's Homes Regulations and Quality Standards and the monitoring of work practices
  • To provide strong and consistent leadership, guidance and management to all care staff,

being involved in the disciplinary and grievance process as required

  • To directly line manage the senior care team managers. Ensuring they have consistency of approach and high expectations of staff teams
  • To ensure all care staff are appraised annually, specifically to highlight and support any

skill gaps that they present in their role. To source and provide targeted training to

reduce any such skill gaps

  • Plan, coordinate and assist in the delivery of staff training, induction and development

programs; including the implementation of a regular program of supervision and

appraisal

  • Responsible for the management of financial resources and a delegated budget.
  • To always ensure appropriate on-duty and on-call cover for the residential provision

and to be part of the senior on-duty/on-call team

  • Work in close partnership with Education and Therapy teams to develop the 'whole pupil' and 24 hour / waking curriculum approaches
  • Be a member of a multidisciplinary, professional team - chair and contribute to meetings

as and when required

  • Responsible for advising the Head Teacher on care-focussed national initiatives,

government recommendations and legislation and reporting current School performance

against such guidelines

  • To work alongside the School's Head and the School Safeguarding Team to ensure that all

Child Protection and Safeguarding Policies and Procedures are followed and any issue is

managed carefully and promptly to a satisfactory conclusion. Ensure all relevant staff

attend Child Protection / Safeguarding training and updates, and display its principles in

their practice

  • It is your professional responsibility to help protect those in our care and keep yourself

and colleagues safe. Where you are required to provide close contact care, support or any

level of physical intervention, you will be required to wear PPE and take part in regular
