Job description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a forward-thinking and enthusiastic Veterinary Nurse to complement our wonderful team here at Newcastle Vets for Pets.
About Us:
We are a well-established stand-alone small animal practice located in the Benton area just outside of the thriving Newcastle city centre. We are ideally located with excellent bus and metro transport links and plenty of on-site parking.
We opened fifteen years ago and since then have built a wonderfully diverse and loyal client base as well as an excellent reputation for our high standards of clinical care and a caring and committed team.
Our spacious practice is well equipped with on-site theatre, digital Xray, ultrasound machine, dental Xray, in-house laboratory, pharmacy, separate dog and cat wards, four consult rooms and a large, dedicated colleague room. There is also plenty of space for colleague pets!
About the Team and Culture:
You will be joining a friendly and supportive team who are looking forward to welcoming you into the family. You will be working in a practice where your opinions matter, your feelings are respected, and your work life balance and wellbeing are a priority. We believe that our team is our greatest resource and so you will be joining a culture of diversity and a consistently caring and supportive atmosphere.
Newcastle Vets for Pets is driven by our exceptional standards in patient care, and we work hard to offer the best service possible to our clients while always looking out for each other. We also like to play hard and regularly organise team outings such as Go-Ape, life drawing, laser tag, axe throwing and lots of meals out, as well as regular lunch-time takeaways, an annual bake-off competition, and a practice book club.
The wellbeing of all our colleagues is hugely important, and management are always actively looking for ways to improve and support the health and wellness of the team. We encourage colleagues to take regular breaks whenever they need them and to feel like they can speak openly if something is not working well or if they are not feeling their best. It is our constant aim to create an environment that is safe and secure where colleagues feel supported and valued.
The Role:
You will be joining a clinical team of six vets, four RVNS and two SVNS who are all guided and supported by our dedicated Head Nurse and Clinical Lead, Laura Morton.
The practice is looking for a keen and reliable Registered Veterinary Nurse to help us expand our team with an overall aim to widen the clinical services we currently have on offer. The role is ideally suited to someone who is confident in all aspects of nursing care, including nurse consultations. We are a training practice and so clinical supervisor experience is advantageous, though not essential. Special interests are not only welcomed but actively encouraged and CPD is fully supported, including the potential for certificates.
The role itself is full-time (39 hours), though part-time hours could be considered for the right candidate. The shift pattern would include four shifts 8.30-7 with a regularly scheduled day off every week, and one out of three Saturdays 9-12 (consults only). There is no Sunday work, out of hours or on-call required.
We want you to enjoy your workday, and our diary is carefully planned to ensure opportunities for both surgical and consulting days, as well as plentiful admin time and breaks built in.
We believe in practicing evidence-based medicine and so discussions about new techniques and developments are always welcome. Quarterly nurse meetings allow for the opportunity for open discussions as we constantly strive to grow and improve our patient care.
Benefits:
The benefit package at Newcastle Vets for Pets includes (but is not necessarily limited to)
  • Salary starting from £26,000 (DOE)
  • Company pension scheme
  • Holiday allowance of 5.6 weeks per year, increasing to 6.6 weeks after two calendar years of service, plus an additional day off for your birthday
  • RCVS/VDS/BVA/BSAVA fees and memberships paid.
  • Generous CPD allowance
  • Company reward hub full of discounts, cashback offers and access to the Cycle to Work Scheme.

If this sounds like the role for you or if you are interested in hearing more about us then please contact Laura Morton (Clinical Lead) at laura.morton@vets4pets.com.
Location: NE7 7DX
Pets just see people. They aren’t biased and they don’t discriminate. We take our inspiration from pets, and we value and respect difference in all its forms. Our aim is to reflect the diversity of the communities we operate in, and every colleague can help us achieve this. We encourage our people to be themselves so even if your skills and experience don’t perfectly align, if you think you can make a unique contribution through your values and behaviours, we want to hear from you!
