Job description

Are you an RVN looking for a new opportunity? At Harrogate Vets4Pets we make sure the whole team feel valued, their voice is heard in deciding the way we do things and that everyone has the chance to do what they love both within our team and outside of work.
We are looking for a full time Registered Veterinary Nurse to join our team. We have worked to foster a calm, collaborative culture so all the team can look forward to going to work and feel supported even on those inevitable more challenging days and that everyone, whether a client or team member, can bring their own unique self into our practice.
Within our current nursing team we have 3 RVNs and an SVN, many of whom have joined us through word of mouth or after spending a short period of time with us, whether locuming or as a student, and then deciding to stay. Our nurses work alongside 3 vets including Leigh-Anne our JVP, our practice manager Sue and an experienced clinical care team including a Mental Health First Aider. We’re proud of the high clinical standards we maintain and with visiting peri-paretic practitioners in orthopaedics, ophthalmology, cardiology and ultrasonography plus a vet who does a lot of soft tissue surgery themselves, we manage to keep much of our caseload in-house.
We are lucky to have lots of experience in our nursing team, including two clinical coaches, who make sure regular time is set aside for 1 to 1s so individuals have the support and structure required to progress. Our nurses undertake schedule 3 procedures and if someone feels they need more training in an area we will support this, for example, we recently arranged extra training to help the whole team feel comfortable with using our new dental x-ray.
Have current clinical coaches done training while they were at Harrogate?
Another part of our practice ethos is that we ‘Get better everyday,’ and that everyone’s opinion always matters, be it in the pain management of an individual patient, or the way we structure our consults. This is achieved through regular clinical and full practice meetings where everyone can impact the way we work, bringing learning from CPD, something they did in another practice or their own ideas.
Our nurses take responsibility for our clinical audits, practice standards protocols, puppy socialisation events, feline and rabbit practice accreditations, de-sensitisation clinics, and, if there is something you are passionate about, we are happy to add to this. In the words of one of senior nurses Natalie you will be ‘Trusted to do real life nursing.’
When you’re with a team who respect, trust and support each other, you can be at your best - Leigh-Anne, JVP
As a team, we spend time together outside of work enjoying pub quizzes, dog walks, pottery painting and, in the summer, have the odd post work social in a ‘pop-up’ pub close to the practice. Last year a group of us completed the Macmillan mighty hike half marathon and this year have started training and fund-raising ready to take on the full marathon.
It’s the most supportive team I’ve ever worked with- Sue, practice manager
Our practice is based in its own building and is large and spacious with windows letting in natural light. We have air-conditioning for those long, hot days in summer and are situated opposite a beautiful park and next to a supermarket. We have ‘bean to cup’ coffee and a vast selection of teas. There’s a sandwich van who comes daily if you forget lunch and we have a pantry of food to share. We doubt anyone chooses a job because they sometimes have cake, but just in case you would, ours is often from Bettys bakery as we have many clients who work for them.
The practice is wheelchair accessible; we have a hearing loop and a digital stethoscope and would welcome a discussion about what accessibility means to you. We are an inclusive practice and believe everyone should be able to be their full selves at work.
Most important to us is to find the right person for our team and some of the attributes we are looking for in our next team member are:
  • Respect and compassion for your patients, team and clients - we never raise our voices and treat every client and patient as an individual.
  • High attention to detail and meticulous in record keeping
  • A growth mindset as part of our blame free culture - we learn from mistakes or when things go wrong.
  • Someone willing to contribute to clinical discussions and how we do things.
  • To take an active part in some of our practice initiatives e.g. nurse obesity clinics
  • To feel comfortable in sharing with us your passion and what would you like to achieve in your new role.

In addition to a salary of £24K - £32 (pro rata DOE and what you bring to our team) we offer an excellent benefits package including:
  • 5.6 weeks holiday plus your birthday off (or time off in lieu if it falls on a weekend or bank holiday)
  • AXA private health insurance
  • RCVS, BVNA, VDS membership plus another membership of your choice
  • Income protection after 1 year of service
  • Relocation allowance
  • Funded CPD, including certificates
  • First Aid training (human)
  • MHFA in practice
  • Counselling service
  • Cycle to work
  • Discount at Vets4Pets, Pet at Home and the groom and plus exclusive discounts through Our Reward Hub
  • Flattering new uniforms designed for the work you do

And more
We want our colleagues to be as diverse as our clients. Our teams are inclusive and celebrate difference so if you meet our role requirements, we’d love to hear from you. If you are interested in the role, we would welcome you to come and visit us. Contact Sue to find out more at sue.unsworth@vets4pets.com or call the practice on 01423 886666.

Pets just see people. They aren’t biased and they don’t discriminate. We take our inspiration from pets, and we value and respect difference in all its forms. Our aim is to reflect the diversity of the communities we operate in, and every colleague can help us achieve this. We encourage our people to be themselves so even if your skills and experience don’t perfectly align, if you think you can make a unique contribution through your values and behaviours, we want to hear from you!
