Would you like a relief position that combines working with disabled adults, young people, and dogs? Are you an experienced, progressive support worker, looking for a new challenge? Do you love dogs and being outdoors?
SPPOT Development Workers are based at our Accredited Canine Education Service in Haverfordwest incorporating our therapeutic dog daycare service, ethical dog grooming and training services and the central hub for our countywide dog walking services. We provide training and volunteering opportunities for adults and children who experience barriers to work and education, to become dog walkers, dog daycarers and to assist in our dog grooming and training services.
The Relief Development Worker role is varied, challenging and fun. Every day is different and can involve working with young people and adults in dog daycare, structured training sessions, travelling around the county to support dog walking in the community, and a significant amount of admin and record keeping. We run a paperless enterprise with all our admin carried out via computerised systems, so applicants need to be comfortable working from a laptop and mobile phone.
Relief staff are required to cover sickness, annual leave, and so forth. This can be for the odd shift here and there, for a full week or two, or no shifts in a week or so but some hours are usually needed most weeks. Relief staff can choose which shifts to accept and there is a considerable flexibility. Shifts are between 8am and 6pm, Monday to Friday and we close for all Bank Holidays.
Applicants need to have at least 1 years of proven experience working with people who have a learning disability or mental health condition or similar field of social care, youth or education work or working with dogs or can demonstrate transferable skills.
Young people who are new to work are very welcome to apply, and will need to demonstrate a huge determination to learn, enthusiasm, work ethic and be able to follow direction.
A fully enhanced DBS check is required to apply and a clean driving license with the use of a car with business insurance and safe capacity for people and dogs, plus two solid references are also required before being able to start.
Applications are currently being invited via CV to Indeed and then shortlisted candidates will be invited to an informal visit to find out more about the work we do and take part in some activities and dog walks (so casual wet weather clothing is essential). We will then offer some paid taster shifts before final selection.
We offer a competitive rate of pay, starting at £11 per hour and rising to £11.50 after completing probation.
