Job description

CDS is a unique organisation with an unusual mission – to provide, support and promote community-led housing and co-operation – so that more people can shape the things that matter most to them. We are a social landlord in our own right, with more than 820 rented and shared ownership homes. Alongside that, we are the largest co-op services agency in the South East, providing landlord, finance and governance expertise as a service provider to over 30 housing co-ops and their 1,800 homes. We are also a promoter of community led housing, setting aside a proportion of our surplus each year to invest in projects and ideas that can help to scale up the sector to expand the use of co-operation as an effective and empowering business model.
You will be passionate about working as a team to deliver a repairs service that consistently impresses our customers, building our reputation for reliability and getting things done quickly and effectively. Your excellent communication will result in well-informed contractors and customers. In a fast-paced and demanding service environment, you will remain calm, helpful and productive. In addition to being responsible for responsive repairs, you will drive quick turnover of standard void properties, ensuring our lettable standard is met and properties are safe. You will also periodically take rent payments for customers and respond to a variety of queries that come through our main phone number, the post or our generic company inbox. You will help to cover for teammates on leave in order to ensure a seamless experience for our customers.
Our values are:
Unity We work as one team, with one reputation
Trust We thrive to be reliable, fair and to act with integrity Intention
Impact We know why we do things, we have plans and we monitor them
Intention We care about the impact we have on others
Collaboration We achieve more when we work with others
Communication We seek understanding as a basis for win/win solutions
Kindness We are brave and honest, facing difficult issues with empathy
These values drive everything we do, and we expect the same from you. With a strong sense of accountability and integrity, you will make decisions with intention and tirelessly pursue facts, resolve complex issues and go toward difficult things, seeking always to leave things better than you found them. Apart from the opportunity to make your mark at CDS by serving as Repairs Advisor, we offer a competitive salary, bonus scheme and generous benefits. We take our employee engagement seriously and will invest in your development and training.
With pace, energy and enthusiasm, you will be willing to learn new skills and duties, stepping in wherever the team needs help and be comfortable taking ownership of your work, demonstrating that you can follow through on issues. We’d like you to have good numeracy skills, excellent communication skills and have a keen eye for detail, allowing you to closely follow written processes.
We’re looking for a dedicated team player with excellent communication skills and an abundance of enthusiasm and ambition to brilliantly manage a repairs patch. You may not have specific experience in housing or repairs, but your proven track record of providing excellent customer service and using your problem-solving skills to deliver objectives will set you up for success in this role. If you are a hard-worker who is committed to customers, are a proficient writer and computer user and can’t help but leave things better than you found them, we really want to hear from you. We can teach the right candidate how to do the specific and technical aspects of the job.
We are actively working toward becoming an anti-racist and inclusive organisation, open to challenge and learning in all our work. We are committed to looking for all kinds of talent to build a diverse workforce that represents the people we serve and encourage people from all backgrounds to apply.
Closing date: Monday, 3rd June 2024 at 9am
First interviews: Thursday, 20th June 2024 (in person at our office)
