Job description

The Local Government Association (LGA) is the national membership body for local authorities. We work on behalf of our member councils to support, promote and improve local government.
We are a politically led, cross-party organisation that works on behalf of councils to ensure local government has a strong, credible voice with national government. We influence and set the political agenda on the issues that matter to councils to help them deliver local solutions to national problems.
We also provide councils with the tools and resources to respond to challenges present and emerging, and support improvement across the sector.

About the role

We are looking for a Research and Data Analyst to collate and provide analysed and formatted data for inclusion in the Scheme Annual Report and the triennial Scheme Valuation Report for the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS). The post holder will work with members of the SAB secretariat and wider pensions team to understand their requirements and design and publish effective Research and analytical projects. You will act as a lead contact for colleagues in providing professional advice and guidance on interpreting research, data and analysis.

The successful post-holder will be a key part of the secretariat team supporting the Board. You will work to design and deliver high quality analytical, Research and Data projects for the Scheme Advisory Board (SAB) and the LGPS sector.

You will be expected to work collaboratively with other members of the SAB secretariat, and the wider LGA pensions team, to ensure the SAB meets its declared objectives.

About you

It’s essential that you have both Research and Data analysis skills and can write and communicate well. We are looking for a team player with good organisational abilities and the ability to accurately summarise and convey sometimes complex information in a non-technical way, with clear conclusions where appropriate.

Expertise in survey research, desk research, data analysis and qualitative analysis, and the ability to apply these to support the needs of politicians, officials and officers would be an advantage. Political sensitivity, with the ability to exercise discretion and to demonstrate political neutrality at all times is important.

Excellent IT skills, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and common Content Management Systems such as Joomla, with the ability to quickly learn new packages as required is essential. The ability to undertake advanced statistical techniques and present this clearly to a non-technical audience is desirable.

The successful candidate can expect to take on a varied and wide-ranging portfolio of important work.

You must have the right to work in the UK, the LGA are unfortunately unable to offer sponsorship visas. Evidence for the right to work in the UK will be requested at the interview stage.

To apply

If you would like to be considered for the role, please complete the online form and include a supporting statement detailing how you meet the criteria of the role before the closing date.
