Job Description

Our R&D team are looking for a motivated scientist with strong experience in immuno-oncology research in academic and industry settings. This role will represent the ‘voice of the scientist’, working closely with our technical and commercial teams to develop new products for immuno-oncology researchers, and supporting and defining abcam’s new product strategy for our customers working within this field.

The Research Area Scientific Lead role will be responsible for working across abcam’s global R&D platforms on technical evaluation, planning, troubleshooting and quality control for our new product development pipelines, ensuring we make the best–performing products for customers working in immuno-oncology research. The role is also responsible for managing product development collaborations with a global network of researchers. The major focus will be on our antibody-based portfolio but the role will work across all product platforms including our proteins and cell engineering.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support new antibody discovery projects working closely with global R&D and marketing colleagues to establish, manage, and troubleshoot the development of new products to guarantee their successful delivery and highest product quality and performance.
  • Provide scientific and technical expertise across the business to represent the needs of our customers working in the field of immunology. Work cross-functionally as the Scientific Lead on implementation of new technologies or process improvements to support those customers.
  • Set product quality and performance standards for our portfolio of products (such as antibodies, ELISA kits, proteins and cell lines), working collaboratively with our R&D teams globally. Ensure that appropriate validation methods are in place to support new product development.
  • Build and manage productive collaborations with scientists and Key Opinion Leaders from academia and industry and establish a scientific network in the research communities we are serving.
  • Be the organizational subject matter expert and a key individual within a cross-functional team supporting the product roadmap and strategy for immuno-oncology.
  • Maintain knowledge of the research field, staying up to date on new developments, literature and methods. Attend meetings and conferences (some travel is required both international & national).

  • Working with data teams and stakeholder across the business, define and implement improved data analysis and analytics tools to enhance our product development capabilities and outcomes.

Qualifications

You will have significant research experience with a PhD in oncology or immuno-oncology and post-doctoral experience (or equivalent) in the immuno-oncology field, as well as experience working across both academic and industry settings.

You have a strong proteomic technical skill set with hands-on experience in using techniques such as immunohistochemistry, flow cytometry, western blotting, immunocytochemistry and ELISA; as well as a strong core cellular and molecular biology skillset.

Whilst the role does not typically entail laboratory work, significant experience with antibodies and the capacity to interpret and analyze scientific data is essential.

You will be highly organized, independent, energetic, proactive, a strong team player and influencer. You must have strong interpersonal and communication skills, comfortable building relationships across teams and functions both internally and externally.

You must be comfortable working in a fast-moving environment, adapting to deadlines and prioritizing different aspects of your role to meet the needs of the business.
