Research Assistant in Clean Energy Technologies School of Computing & Engineering £30,766 - £37,442 per annum Huddersfield Indefinite 37 hours per week Ref: R7430 The Energy Integration Laboratory, a cross disciplinary collaboration across the Schools of Computing and Engineering, Applied Science, and Business, is looking for an individual for the role of Research Assistant to work on projects related to Clean Energy Efficiency. The group are a multidisciplinary team working on a variety of projects encompassing many aspects of Clean Energy, alternative fuels, waste, energy and renewables. The research is based around the requirements of our industrial partners and therefore the theories and techniques being developed have a multitude of applications. These can vary from improving the efficiency of biodigesters for biogas production to the development of micro gas turbines for power generation or reduction of emissions from marine engines. The work will entail the application of a variety of sophisticated computational and experimental methods. You will help review the available literature, collect and analyse data, create interim and final project reports, and generate academic outputs. You will also collaborate with industrial partners, so good practical and communication skills will be essential and previous experience liaising with industry would be an asset. A keen interest in energy efficiency is essential, as is an enquiring and creative approach to challenges. You will have a Masters degree and have or be working towards a Doctoral qualification in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline, together with practical research experience and an understanding of biofuels. Experience in experimental laboratory techniques and associated Health and Safety practices is also essential. Knowledge of waste to energy systems, turbomachinery, or system modelling will be advantageous, as will any previous experience of working in industrial situations.
