Department We are looking for a talented and motivated full-time Research Associate to join the group of Dr William Grey based in the York Biomedical Research Institute, Department of Biology at the University of York. The Grey lab focuses on the proteome and the roles of protein homeostasis in healthy haematopoiesis and malignant transformation to acute myeloid leukaemia (AML), with a particular interest in using primary patient material and translating fundamental biological findings to therapeutic targeting. The post is full time, on a fixed term basis for an initial 1 year with extension available, funded by the Medical Research Council (MRC). Role The associate will work closely with the Anthony Nolan Trust to study blood stem cell expansion. This position will involve the culture of primary human stem cells in varying conditions and study of their proteome in response to stimuli. The study will combine proteomic characterisation with single cell validations using flow cytometry and implementation of new machine learning pipelines to understand the functional state of the proteome in human blood stem cells. Skills, Experience & Qualification needed PhD in a biomedical sciences discipline or equivalent experience in Haematology, immunology or cancer cell biology. Experience in cell culture and molecular biology techniques (e.g. PCR, qPCR, western blotting and flow cytometry). Experience in using in vivo mouse models, primary stem cell cultures, primary human material and proteomics is desirable. Experience of carrying out both independent and collaborative research, writing up research work for publication. A willingness to contribute to the process of securing future research funding. This role is on a fixed term basis for up to 12 months.
