SalaryApplications are invited for a Research Associate position in the Department of Mathematics and I-X at Imperial College London. The position is funded by the Innovate UK Feasibility Studies in Quantum Computing Applications Grant 10073285 'Quantum Machine Learning for Financial Data Streams' and will involve the development and analysis of algorithms at the intersection between Quantum Computing, signatures and rough paths.
Duties and responsibilities
The project will study algorithms at the intersection between Quantum Computing and rough paths with applications to quantitative finance. Two main directions are of interest: one involves quantum kernels and their theoretical properties (universality, generalisation…) while the other focuses on quantum algorithms to solve differential equations (SDEs, PDEs).
You are expected to run alongside Dr Salvi on these topics and help with some of the activities run within I-X and the Mathematical Finance group at Imperial College London.
Essential requirements
The essential requirements for this post are as follow:
- Hold, or be near completion of, a PhD in Mathematics, Machine Learning or Quantum Physics.
- A background in stochastic analysis, Machine Learning and/ or Quantum Physics
- Ability to carry out original research and to produce published research papers
- Ability to identify, develop and apply new concepts, techniques and methods
- Ability to keep accurate records of research results

The position is part time (0.8 FTE) and fixed term for up to 9 months. The candidate is expected to start as soon as possible. You will be based at South Kensington Campus.
- Candidates who have not yet been officially awarded their PhD will be appointed as Research Assistant.
