Birkbeck is looking for a Research Development Manager to enhance our institutional research culture. This post is funded by a Research Culture grant from the Wellcome Trust to provide tailored support to Birkbeck to enhance its research culture so that academic and research staff from historically excluded communities, including those returning from a career break and at all levels of the career path, are empowered to further their careers in health and health-related research. The Research Development Manager will play a key role in supporting individuals to develop their research ideas into distinct and fundable projects. They will provide expert advice and guidance in identifying suitable funders and funding schemes, providing tailored guidance throughout the application process. The postholder will also support the establishment of a network for grant sponsored researchers to encourage the formation of an academic identity through success in grant applications, publishing and other outputs. In this role you will provide one-to-one support to academic staff and researchers through the development of funding bids; design, deliver and promote appropriate training programmes, thematic workshops and events and manage and support the establishment and development of a research culture network. To succeed in this role you need to have a thorough understanding of research grant funding in UK universities and have a proven track record of working successfully with academic colleagues to support the development and submission of high quality research funding proposals; have strong interpersonal skills with an ability to build and maintain relationships and networks, working creatively and collaboratively with colleagues to produce meaningful change. You will also be educated to degree level or have equivalent experience. Remuneration Birkbeck offers a competitive salary and pension scheme, 31 days paid leave, flexible working arrangements and some of the most generous benefits in the HE sector, all while being located right in the heart of Central London. The salary quoted is on the College's London Pay Scale which includes a consolidated Weighting/Allowance which applies only to staff whose normal contractual place of work is in the London area.
