This role offers the opportunity for hybrid working – some time on campus and some from home.

This new part time post is available from the 1st May 2024 on a fixed term basis until 31st March 2027.

Summary of the role
We are looking for an experienced individual who will be responsible for the financial administration and management, preferably with a good knowledge of Higher Education and Research to financially administer a new project within the MRC Centre for Medical Mycology (MRC CMM) led by Profs Gordon Brown, Director, and Elaine Bignell, Co-Director (Research) of the MRC CMM.

The post holder must have excellent financial management and interpersonal skills and be able to effectively liaise with the Project team, partners, stakeholders, the Centre Directors and Manager, research staff and students as well as the wider academic and professional services teams involved in the delivery of the project aims and objectives.
The post holder will be responsible for the day to day financial delivery, management and oversight for the budgets associated with the project(s), ensuring all sponsor Terms and Conditions including audit requirements and University policies and processes are met. The post holder must be able to plan, prioritise, provide administrative support, and work efficiently on a varied workload and be able to demonstrate initiative and flexibility. The position will work closely with the project team and is central to the running of the project.

Team
The Medical Research Council Centre for Medical Mycology (MRC CMM) is one of the most ambitious strategic investments in UK medical mycology. The MRC CMM is a world-leading research centre that is helping to tackle the major global threats to human health caused by fungal diseases. In fact, fungal infections now kill more people worldwide than malaria and similar numbers to tuberculosis.
The Centre aims to increase our understanding of fungal pathogens and cognate immune defences, and to identify new ways to diagnose, prevent and treat fungal diseases. A major activity of the MRC CMM is to increase UK capacity in fundamental and clinical research in medical mycology through research and training programmes for medical and biosciences students and early career researchers.
The Centre has established strategic interactions with other national and international groups is promoting public engagement and understanding of our science.
Main purpose of the job:
  • To undertake and be responsible for all financial work necessary to deliver the effective financial management for the project, provide information and advice to the project team and stakeholders/partners and project sponsor for all aspects of the budget to include financial budget planning, forecasting, and monitoring.
  • Ensure all project sponsor Terms and Conditions are met and follow all University policy and procedures.
  • Work effectively within the wider team and the ability to liaise with partners, stakeholders, staff, and students at all levels.
  • Provide financial and procurement support, internal and external communications, and reporting and data analysis, as necessary. Attend financial and project meetings as required.
  • This role will be based in the Geoffrey Pope Building and in the Innovation Centre, in the heart of Exeter’s Streatham campus, with the possibility to work some days from home.
