Oxford Nanopore Technologies is headquartered at the Oxford Science Park outside Oxford, UK, with satellite offices and a commercial presence in many global locations across the US, APAC and Europe.
Oxford Nanopore employs from multiple subject areas including nanopore science, molecular biology and applications, informatics, engineering, electronics, manufacturing and commercialisation. The management team, led by CEO Dr Gordon Sanghera, has a track record of delivering disruptive technologies to the market.
Oxford Nanopore's sequencing platform is the only technology that offers real-time analysis, in fully scalable formats from pocket to population scale, that can analyse native DNA or RNA and sequence any length of fragment to achieve short to ultra-long read lengths. Our goal is to enable the analysis of any living thing, by anyone, anywhere!
Our Sequencing Method Research team is orchestrating our internal effort to explore novel ways to sequence and characterise biological molecules.
This is an outstanding opportunity to work in a multidisciplinary and highly collaborative environment including a variety of lab scientists and machine learning experts! The role is hybrid experimental molecular biology and data analysis.
The Details....
This role includes exploring novel methods to produce canonical and modified bases training and validations sets, for basecalling training. There will be close collaboration with our machine learning group and you will have ample opportunity to use and develop data analysis and programming skills. Whilst you will work closely with the team leader, you will also work independently as the technical lead of the experimental work.
- Quality control of sequencing data, including data processing and visualisation.
- Analysis with Python to parse, format and transform data.
- Preparation of libraries using existing/novel chemistries and sequencing on our MinION/GridION platforms.
- Exploring experimental sequencing platforms and innovative nucleic-acid synthesis methods
- Organisation of the lab work and mentoring junior team members.
- Presenting, and summarising data to other members of the Sequencing Chemistry Research team.
- Collaborating with other groups across our Machine Learning, Research, Development, and Production divisions.
What We Are Looking For…..
- A creative and open-minded individual, able to adapt to change in a fast-paced research environment and who perform well under pressure.
- Ideally the position would suit candidates with a PhD or proven industry experience in a Research and Development environment.
- Extensive experience in molecular biology, including development of complex experimental protocols.
- Significant experience in library preparation/sequencing, and familiarity with Oxford Nanopore's commercially available platforms and kits.
- Familiarity with Python programming language and the UNIX command-line is also helpful.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail and a high level of organisation.
We offer outstanding benefits to include an attractive bonus, generous pension contributions, private healthcare and an excellent starting salary. Based within beautiful, landscaped surroundings with tree-lined walks, water features and a lake, all of which make for a wonderful working environment.
