THE ROLE:
We announce a Research Software Engineer (RSE) position at the Institute of Cosmology and Gravitation. The successful candidate will develop and maintain software in support of projects in the ICG’s research portfolio, particularly in space missions. We are seeking people to work primarily on the Euclid or CASTOR space telescopes projects. In Euclid, the focus is on science exploitation of clustering observables. CASTOR involves simulation and development of a mission concept for a UV space telescope. The position may also involve work on smaller software innovation projects. The successful candidate will have experience developing software in languages like Python or C, as well as demonstrated ability in good Software Engineering practices and the ability to develop software both individually and as part of large, structured scientific collaborations. Experience with big data, machine learning, or modern statistical inference are desirable.
The ICG consists of 20 academic staff, around 20 postdoctoral researchers, 6 Research Software Engineers, around 30 PhD students, and has an active international visitors programme.
