This role has a starting salary of £24,177 per annum, based on working 3 days (21.6 hours) per week. The FTE starting salary is £40,296.

We are excited to be hiring a new Residential Childcare Apprenticeship Trainer and Assessor to join our fantastic Apprenticeship team. As Surrey County Council are planning to expand the number of Residential Childcare homes across the county, we're looking for someone who is flexible and responsive to change in an evolving sector to join us in making this apprenticeship delivery a success!

This role is to deliver the Residential Childcare Apprenticeships at Level 4 and Level 5. These apprenticeships include the Level 3 and Level 5 NCFE/CACHE Diplomas.

Level 4 - Children, young people and families practitioner / Institute for Apprenticeships and Technical Education

Level 5 - Children, young people and families manager / Institute for Apprenticeships and Technical Education
OPTION 1: Manager in Children's Residential Care

Although this position is based at our Woking Adult Learning Centre, staff can work in an agile way, including from home. Travel within Surrey to our other centres and learner work placements within Surrey's Children's Residential care homes will be required, so you will need to have a valid driving licence and use of a vehicle. There may be occasions when you will need to work outside of normal 9-5 office hours as this depends on your learners' shifts.

About the Role
As our Residential Childcare Apprenticeship Trainer and Assessoryou will be responsible for delivering apprenticeship programmes as a group and 1-1 teaching sessions primarily in the apprentices' workplace, at one of our training centres or remotely using MS Teams. This will include all aspects of apprenticeship training, assessment and delivery in line with Quality Assurance procedures so that we meet our regulatory requirements. We use OneFile e-portfolio for planning, carrying out assessments and giving written feedback.
Through your sessions you will support, advise and motivate learners to excel and overcome any barriers to learning they may face. You will need to embed hot topics such as safeguarding, British values and EDI into your delivery.

You will be responsible for managing a caseload of around 18 learners based on working 3 days per week. You will be responsible for managing communication with your learners and their line managers, ensuring that all learners are making excellent progress and putting action plans in place to support learners when required.

Apprentices who need to work towards Functional Skills English and/or Maths will attend separate training sessions with our Functional Skills Specialist, however you will ensure that English and maths are fully embedded into the apprenticeship delivery.

Shortlisting Criteria
In order to be considered for shortlisting, your application must evidence the following:
  • Residential/social childcare qualification and/or significant professional experience in a senior Residential Childcare role.
  • Thorough knowledge of current children's home legislation in England.
  • An introductory teaching/training award (PTLLS/L3 Award in Education & Training or equivalent).
  • An Assessor qualification (TAQA/A1 or equivalent).
  • A level 2 (or equivalent) qualification in both English and maths.
  • A valid driving licence and access to a vehicle.
  • Excellent IT and organisational skills
