Some days I go home laughing. Some days I go home exhausted. Every day I go home so grateful that I took the job as a Residential Youth Support worker for a children’s home in East Sussex.
When I saw the advert initially, I questioned if I would be suitable. My experience was as a mother to three children and a bit of TA work in the past. Despite this, I sent in my CV and a cover letter highlighting my experience with Children, my understanding of child development (which with hindsight was far less than I realised) and my experience of working as part of a team.
To my surprise I was invited to an interview and rather than the formal anxiety inducing interviews I have attended in the past, it was more of a conversation around my values and me as a person and I was offered the job. When I started, I was nervous, but full training was given to me and I soon grew into the role and now my colleagues and the children we look after are like a second family to me.
