Job description

We are seeking a full-time Responsible Exploitation and Translation Officer to support the EEBio Programme Grant (https://eebio.web.ox.ac.uk/) and other activities at the intersection of Control Engineering and Engineering Biology, at the Department of Engineering Science. The role is full-time and is based in Central Oxford. The post is fixed-term for three years in the first instance. As a Responsible Exploitation and Translation Officer (RETO) you will lead the development of a reliable, responsible and trustworthy innovation framework towards acceptance of engineered biological systems by regulators and wider society, while at the same time act as the innovation and industrial liaison manager. The RETO role would suit an individual with experience in developing and delivering a strategy for responsible and trustworthy implementation of technology in an emerging scientific discipline, and experience of engaging with diverse stakeholder groups including industrial partners. You should hold a relevant doctorate with significant post-qualification research experience and have proven specialist knowledge in public engagement and dissemination activities including methodologies to understand public perceptions of emerging technologies. You should have the ability to conceive, implement and evaluate a Responsible Research and Innovation strategy, based on an excellent understanding of RRI principles and ways that they have been applied in emerging areas of science. You should have excellent oral and written communication skills and effective organisational skills and the ability to independently plan and manage a programme of activities and be accountable for their execution, while facilitating their delivery and encouraging/enabling a team-based approach to tasks, including with those outside the immediate team and across institutions.
