Your role:
You will be an ambassador for a restorative approach within Youth Justice, REACH Adolescent Safeguarding Service), the council and wider partners. Your key roles will include:
- Supporting victims of youth crime, advocating for them and their rights within the criminal justice system and ensuring their voice is heard.
- Help victims understand the youth justice system and different types of orders and disposals.
- Facilitate restorative outcomes for victims, children and families.
- Work alongside Youth Justice Workers to help children think about the impact of their behaviour on others.
- Deliver training on the restorative approach.
- Work with key links within the council to look at restorative solutions and repair harm.
About you:
You will have experience of working restoratively, preferably in a youth justice setting and work in accordance with the Restorative Justice Council’s (RJC) practice guidance.
You will:
- Show empathy and understanding for those you support.
- Build trusting relationships with victims.
- Create a safe environment for victims to explore difficult experiences and find out what they need and wish for, whilst managing expectations.
- Have the skills needed to facilitate restorative outcomes, including assessing suitability and creating safe environments.
- Work with colleagues, children, families and partners to ensure needs of the victim are met.
- Understand the challenges children who offend may face and know how to overcome barriers with them.
- Deliver dynamic and engaging restorative approaches training and inspire others to use the approach.
- Be flexible and creative to meet the needs of all those you support.

You will be in the East Youth Justice Team, as well as a borough wide dedicated restorative team. The Youth Justice Teams work with children, families and victims to prevent and reduce offending, protect the public and safeguard children. We are a multi-disciplinary team and all work together to achieve our shared aims, underpinned by a commitment to restorative and relational practice. The team has the Restorative Service Quality Mark with the Restorative Justice Council (RJC) and prides itself on this accolade.
