Here at The Isle of Wight College we work with a number of employers, in a vast array of industries. A fantastic opportunity has arisen to work as a Retail Apprentice at Richardsons Yacht Services.
This is a unique opportunity to join a thriving Isle of Wight Boat Builders, Chandlery, Repairs and Re-fits organisation.
Established in 1988, Richardson’s Yacht Services has retained its status as a local, family run business with its core values at the heart of all operations. We simply wanted to share our love of all things boats. Refitting and servicing yachts is what we’re good at, and it’s what we do.
Due to growth within the business, we are seeking to recruit an additional Chandlery Assistant to our team.
Based in our busy chandlery, working alongside to our well-established boatyard operation, the role will be customer-focused, with the key responsibility to provide excellent and knowledgeable service to our valued customer base.

Chandlery - Richardsons Yacht Services Ltd, Isle of Wight
Role Profile:
The successful applicant will have the ability to engage with each and every customer, establish their needs whether large or small, and offer them a solution from our comprehensive stock or our wide supplier base.
Main tasks and responsibilities to include:
· Making sales through our EPOS system.
· Receiving and verifying deliveries.
· Preparing and presenting goods for sale – visual merchandising.
· Organising stock.
· Customer Service.
The right candidate who excels will have the opportunity to develop their role further.
Desired Skills:
· A friendly and patient manner, with a genuine desire to assist customers and contribute to team success.
· An existing familiarity with marine or related equipment would be beneficial, but a willingness and ability to learn and gather knowledge is essential.
· Attention to detail, and the ability to self-motivate to complete tasks to a high standard.
· Competence in basic numeracy for the role.
Apprenticeship Standard:
· Retailer Level 2 Apprenticeship Standard.
· Duration of Apprenticeship will be 14 months + 3 months for the end point assessment.
· Functional Skills in Math’s and English at are required if not previously achieved GCSE grade 4 or above.
· There is a requirement to complete off-the-job training for 6 hours per week, time spent either learning something new, other courses or any support work that is not in your usual role will also be counted.
Working Week:
· 40 hours per week over Monday to Sunday.
· Weekend work will be required.
Wage:
· £211.20 per week (paid monthly.)
Additional information below:
The current National Minimum Wage (NMW) rate for apprentices is £5.28 per hour. This applies to 16-18-year-old apprentices and those aged over 19 in the first year of their Apprenticeship. For all other apprentices the National Minimum wage appropriate to their age applies. The Minimum Wage for Apprentices applies to time spent on the job plus time spent training.
