SalaryWe've got an exciting opportunity for a Retail Manager to join our team at Cliveden.
As our Retail Manager at Cliveden, you’ll play an important part in helping people enjoy their day, and you’ll be generating crucial funds for the National Trust to invest in protecting and caring for places, so people and nature can thrive.
You'll be working 37.5 hours per week, with a usual working pattern of 9am - 5.30pm although this may vary during peak seasons. You’ll be working weekends and Bank Holidays on a rota basis.
This is a fixed term contract due to end when the previous employee returns from maternity leave. At this point we cannot confirm exactly how long this contract will last, but it is unlikely to be more than 12 months.

Cliveden is the most visited National Trust property in London and the South-East, and its large, friendly team of staff and volunteers welcomes visitors to meet, walk, relax, and make memories at this popular location.
You’ll be reporting into the specialist Retail Area Manager, and play an important part of the wider property team, including some duty management responsibilities as part of a property rota.
With your love of leading people and ambition to deliver beyond expectation, you'll set stretching targets and lead your team to deliver a unique retail experience. Through supervising and motivating staff and volunteers, you’ll manage the day-to-day operation and ensure the retail team are engaged to exceed customer service expectations.
As well as being the leader of the retail outlet, you’ll work with all teams across the property to ensure the shop is an integral part of the visitor experience. Harnessing ideas from your team and customer feedback, you’ll identify new opportunities to drive income, you’ll make sure the merchandise reflects the properties unique spirit of place, and that your products will deliver stretching financial targets. You’ll know that delivering a fantastic retail experience is paramount to our ability to invest in conservation priorities, and you’ll coach and develop the retail team to drive sales, champion our cause and maximise our profits.
Whilst not needing to be a plant expert, you must be prepared to manage the plant sales business and be instrumental in its continued development. This will include liaising with our gardens department and working with our plant suppliers to maximise opportunities linked to the gardens at Cliveden.
As a Retail Manager, you'll have;
- Experience managing a retail operation with knowledge of retail standard process (including selling, merchandising, space management, stock control, risk management)
- Experience in leading a team to deliver the highest standards of customer service.
- Experience mentoring, developing and supervising teams – rotas, managing absence, giving feedback.
- Strong knowledge of ensuring a retail outlet maximises its sales potential.
- Previously worked within a wider management team
