We’re looking for a Retail Manager to join our team at Winkworth Arboretum.
You’ll play an important part in helping people enjoy their day and you’ll be generating crucial funds for the National Trust to invest in protecting and caring for places, so people and nature can thrive. In return, we’ll give you the chance to be creative and give you the support and tools you need to build your career.
You’ll be working 37.5 hours per week, with a usual working pattern of 9am - 5pm which includes weekends.
Interview: Week commencing 22nd April 2024 with an anticipated starting date on 27th May 2024
It's an exciting time to be joining us at Winkworth. Work is well underway to build our brand-new visitor centre, which is due to be completed in late June 2024. The building will be home to a new shop, café, toilets, and visitor reception.
You'll help source local products that reflect the spirit of Winkworth Arboretum. Through carefully curated ranges and visual merchandising you'll bring this to life, making our visitor's experience unique & special.
Reporting to the Area Manager, you'll be leading a new team of up to 8 retail assistants and a small team of retail volunteers. As this is a new shop, so you’ll be involved in recruiting and building the team in readiness for our opening.
You'll also be part of the leadership team at Winkworth Arboretum and will work closely with the General Manager and the wider team, actively involved in making decisions that affect the Winkworth.
Your focus every day will be on your customers: going out of your way to make sure they’re having their best possible day. You'll lead your team from the front, encouraging them to speak to people and answer their questions, also to inspiring them, so that everyone who buys something knows just what a difference their contribution, however small, will make to the work of the Trust in protecting nature, beauty and history.
You'll set stretching targets for the team, and work together to achieve these through the highest standards of customer service and presentation of retail products.
We'd love to hear from you, if you’re:
an experienced Retail Manager, familiar with standard processes (including selling, merchandising, space management, stock control, risk)
skilled in coaching, developing and leading teams
experienced in managing rotas and recruiting staff
adept at getting maximum sales out of a retail outlet
