Reviews EditorDisease Models & Mechanisms

Based in Cambridge, UK

Disease Models & Mechanisms (DMM), published by The Company of Biologists, is seeking enthusiastic and motivated applicants for the role of Reviews Editor.

Joining an experienced and successful team, including Editor-in-Chief Liz Patton, this is an excellent opportunity for a talented scientific editor to make a significant contribution to a growing Open Access journal in the fast-moving field of translational research. DMM publishes primary research articles, reviews, perspectives and other front section content, and has a strong focus on supporting the community through its activities.

As the Company approaches its centenary in 2025, this is an exciting time to join us as we expand our teams and plan our celebrations.

Applicants should hold a PhD, and ideally postdoctoral experience, in a relevant field. We particularly welcome applications from candidates with experience of commissioning and handling review-type content and/or with general editorial experience. Experience is not essential, however, and we will provide full on-the-job training and support.

The successful candidate will have strong writing, communication, networking and interpersonal skills. We are also looking for enthusiasm, motivation, commitment, and a broad interest in science and the scientific community.

Core responsibilities include:

  • Commissioning, handling peer review and developmental editing of review content.
  • Representation of the journal at local and international conferences, and within the wider scientific community.
  • Contributing to interview and editorial pieces within the journal.
  • Running active and engaging social media platforms.
  • Creative involvement in the journal’s development and marketing activities.

Additional responsibilities may be available for the right candidate. The starting salary will be based on experience.

The Reviews Editor will work alongside a Managing Editor and a Features & Reviews Editor, as well as with our international team of Academic Editors. Additional collaboration with the in-house DMM team, and the other journal teams, makes this a dynamic and stimulating environment to work in. This is a permanent position, based in The Company of Biologists’ attractive modern office on the outskirts of Cambridge, UK, with the option of a maximum of 50% remote working per week.
