Job description

This a new role to work with the Risk & Assurance Manager to take forward our improvement journey for risk management and internal controls.

About the Team

The Governance Team provides a range of corporate governance services, including overseeing the effective system of governance, risk management and internal control within the Government Internal Audit Agency (GIAA), leading on planning and reporting, producing the Corporate Plan and the Annual Report and Accounts and oversight of the correspondence system.

About the Job

The postholder will be responsible for leading on a range of Risk and Assurance processes across GIAA, focused around ensuring we meet the principles of the HMG Orange Book for Risk Management and to fully implement the Risk Control Framework for government, and the arising assurance map.

Risk and Assurance Officer Responsibilities:

  • Delivery of assurance exercises, working closely with colleagues in Business Support.
  • Carrying out regular reviews of strategic and corporate risks with Directors and Deputy Directors.
  • Oversight of the assurance action tracker.
  • Maintaining the GIAA assurance map, keeping it live and a true capture of how effectively GIAA is controlling risk across its business functions.
  • Take forward continued developments to risk management tools and reporting, identifying opportunities to innovate and improve.
  • Ensure that all the governance procedures and policies are fit for purpose, up to date and accessible to all colleagues.
  • Contribute towards the wider team efforts to deliver effective governance advice and support to Directors, non-executive Board members and colleagues.

About You

The successful candidate will have experience in a role with responsibility for risk management processes or assurance frameworks, and knowledge of the three lines model for assurance and experience of how this operates within an organisation.

The expectation is that the postholder would have a minimum of 5 GCSE’s (or equivalent).

Although not essential, it would be preferable if applicants will have either achieved, or be working towards a qualification in Risk management or other relevant professional qualification.

GIAA colleagues are expected to work in an office location for three days a week on average (60%). Naturally, this expectation will be applied on a pro-rata basis for people who have a part-time or compressed hours working pattern.
