SALES ENGINEER (PHOTONICS)
 
BASED LIVINGSTON – SALARY NEGOTIABLE DOE + COMMISSION / EXCELLENT BENEFITS PACKAGE
 
Founded in the 1970’s and based in Livingston, ESS Recruits client is one of the world’s leading manufacturers of fluorescence spectrometers and spectroscopy systems and components, supplying both the research and high-end analytical markets.  Their products can be found in many leading universities and research institutes as well as in industrial research.  They are a scientific instrument manufacturing businesses with production sites across six countries in Europe and with a comprehensive commercial network with sales offices and distribution partners across the globe.   They have an exciting opportunity for a Photonics Sales Engineer to join their team, covering an international territory from the UK to Asia.
  
Reporting to the Sales Manager this role will play a key part in educating researchers and scientists to drive interest in the Company’s products globally. You will be responsible for a wide variety of sales-related functions, including promoting the product line with a consultative sales approach, supported by the Application and Product experts internally.  You will help identify objectives, strategies, and action plans to ensure effective management of the customer base and pipeline – both via direct customer contact and management of the international distribution channels.
  
Responsibilities:  
  • Sell company products within the assigned territory to achieve set sales targets.
  • Discuss research and analysis objectives with potential customers and configure spectroscopy solutions to best fit their requirements.
  • Liaise with other teams internally, including R&D for bespoke requirements or creating technical content with the Marketing team.
  • Prepare quotations using CRM and maintain the sales database and forecast report.
  • Work closely with international distribution partners - to answer technical or commercial questions, establish best practices, increase local market understanding.
  • Be the expert in this field - partake in internal training and proactive customer interactions  
Ideally you will need a degree in a scientific discipline such as Physics or Chemistry – Masters or PhD preferred but not essential.  Candidates who do not have formal qualifications but have demonstrable experience in the industry and / or have a good understanding of fluorescence and Raman spectroscopy and their applications will also be considered.  You should ideally have technical or scientific sales experience - understanding of the academic sales process and distribution management preferred.  Lastly due to the nature of this role you should have the flexibility to travel nationally and internationally - to visit customer sites, international partners and attend conferences.  Travel likely around 20% of the time.  Once established in role you will also be able to work from home a number of days but will be expected on site in Livingston on a weekly basis.
