Job description

Sanctions Advisory (AVP)

I'm looking for a bright, inquisitive mind with good academics to join a Sanctions Advisory team that advises the business on complex client cases and high-risk jurisdictions.

This sanction advisory role is with an exceptional corporate bank specialising in clients that most large banks need help understanding. Think of clients like Crypto, MSBs, drinks firms that create CBD products and ship them globally, a tech startup that creates cutting-edge drones, and large listed fintech. But are these drones being used as weapons? Can the CBD products that the drinks firm produces cause reputational damage to the bank? These are the types of cases you will work on, and take a risk-based decision if you can bring on the client or continue the relationship, and if not, how, what solutions are there, etc. This team is responsible exclusively for providing sanctions advice and guidance and general financial crime reviews for high-risk and ultra-high-risk jurisdictions.

One of the key responsibilities for this role is to be able to take all your findings and analysis and include your sanctions findings in a detailed report that you will work on with the wider financial crime advisory team, which can be anywhere between 5-10- pages long. This report will be shared with senior stakeholders and presented at high-risk committee meetings. The ability to write reports and then receive feedback and comments from various stakeholders is an important skill you should have. To reiterate - you must be an excellent written communicator with prior experience creating financial crime reports in document format or email.

You will work with a highly talented sanctions team lead and other financial crime managers who will guide you, but you will be given the autonomy to think critically and make a risk-based decision.

You will work with clients over the years and support them along their journey to ensure they are aligned with the bank's financial crime risk appetite as they expand their business and move into new products & services with further financial crime risks.

The bank has a nurturing culture, a meritocratic environment, and clear career plans.

Requirements for the role:

  • Good academics or proven professional experience.
  • Strong in-depth knowledge of US, UK, EU and UN Sanctions regimes to ensure regulatory requirements awareness and application.
  • A genuine interest in financial crime and general knowledge of financial crime regulations covering AML, AB&C and Fraud to help with your sanctions role.
  • An understanding of startup/SME corporate clients (not large FIs).
  • Currently working in financial crime using a risk-based approach.
  • We are open to people coming from a financial crime think tank or research firm

If you are interested in this sanctions opportunity and would like to apply, please submit your CV. Alternatively, call Pritesh Chudasama on for a confidential conversation.

Please note that feedback should not be received within 28 days due to the large volume of applications. Unfortunately, your application has been unsuccessful. However, I may be in touch with similar relevant opportunities.
