About Us:
Help us bring the joy of music into children and young people’s lives.
The award-winning Tri-borough Music Hub (TBMH) is the lead organisation that oversees the delivery of music education in three west London boroughs - the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham, the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, and the City of Westminster - working with schools, pupils and the workforce. It is a centralised Local Authority service which receives core funding from the Department for Education via the Arts Council England.
The TBMH Strategic Partners are two internationally renowned organisations - The Royal Albert Hall and The Royal College of Music. In addition, a dedicated and quality-assured group of delivery partner organisations work to meet the TBMH’s strategic aims.
Candidates may wish to be aware of changes in how Music Hubs are being organized due to a change of government policy with the formation of a new London West Music hub from September 2024 – more information can be found HERE. In relation to the TBMH there will be no change to the way that we work. In essence, the 5 existing music services will remain delivering locally but they will come under a new strategic vision and new LWMH Hub Governance Board that will work towards some aspects of shared working in time.
The Role:
Helping us in our mission to deliver musical learning both in and out of the school environment, you will work with students, tutors and families as you deliver our popular Saturday Music School (SMS). Combining both administrative duties with music-specific support, your overall remit will be to administer, run and supervise the SMS – though what that entails will vary hugely from day-to-day!
The SMS has c.250 learners aged 7-18, with more than 35 tutors and a regular performance programme including informal recital platforms and end of term/year concerts. In addition to SMS duties, the post holder will also form part of the wider TBMH administration team supporting cross-service ambitions/priority areas; and help lead the social and media communications aspect of the service.
This is a busy position based at the Lyric Hammersmith (4 days per week) and at Latymer Upper School, home of the SMS (on 30 Saturdays during term time). The postholder will need to travel to schools and over venues as per the needs of the role. This position would suit a candidate at the early stages of their career looking for first steps into arts administration, who enjoys a varied and rewarding workload.
Please refer to the Job Description for more information.
About You:
If you either have a music performance background or you are a musician, that would be a distinct advantage, though we are open to applicants who are simply passionate about music education! A basic knowledge of tuning at least one instrument family would be helpful, and you will be happy to handle basic repairs on instruments, such as changing strings and so forth. With good IT skills and the ability to use social media, you will be happy to learn new software, and you will have well-developed administrative skills with a sharp eye for detail. Crucially, you will also have exceptional communication and customer-facing skills.
This is a great opportunity to join a small team who are friendly and supportive, and who want you to exceed. With plenty of training and development opportunities and a competitive benefits package (plus performances to attend!), this is a unique role for someone who is passionate about music, and wants to make the music and performance sector accessible to all. Plus, with our offices in the Lyric Hammersmith Theatre, we really can’t think of a more exceptional role or working environment!
