Artios Pharma is recruiting for a Scientist for a fixed term 12-month contract. This is an excellent opportunity to join a world class research team in a dynamic, small Biotech company based south of Cambridge, UK. Artios is focused on identifying and developing cancer treatments by exploiting novel targets within the DNA damage response (DDR), a scientific area of high expectation following the success of PARP inhibitors in the clinic. The company is actively working on an exciting portfolio of unique DNA repair projects.
We have 2 clinical studies with our small molecules, ATR and Polθ inhibitors, in clinical development.
The successful candidate will work in the Cell Assays team. Primary responsibility will be contributing biological data to Artios’ ongoing drug discovery projects. You will achieve this by applying your technical expertise in cell and molecular biology to create and run cellular assays, measuring the ability of Artios’ novel anticancer agents to modulate specific DNA repair pathways and mechanisms.
Responsibilities:

- Run mechanistic cell biological studies to characterise Artios’ novel targets Contribute biological data to Artios’ ongoing drug discovery projects.
Experience required:
Essential:
- Excellent skills in a broad range of cell and molecular biology techniques, including mammalian cell culture, viability assays, Western blotting, immunofluorescence.
- Minimum of three years’ experience working in a research environment.
- High level of team working skills.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team in an organised and methodical fashion.
- Ability to troubleshoot experiments independently.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Keeping accurate laboratory records.
- High level of IT literacy.
- Flexible approach to change.
Desirable:
- Understanding of DNA damage response biology, DNA repair pathways, telomere maintenance mechanisms and/or cancer biology.
- Expertise in cell-based screening assays.
- Experience with stable cell line generation.
- Experience of small molecule drug discovery.
- Experience working in an industrial setting.
Qualifications required for this position:
PhD or equivalent in a life science subject.
