Website: 1-2-1 Mentors
Does helping young people and making a difference to their lives inspire you? Do you wish you could teach on an individual basis and give your pupils what they really need? Would you like to be part of a team who are able to put those needs first? Are you looking for flexible part time work?
1-2-1 Mentors work with children and young people, helping them to raise their aspirations, and build resilience to achieve their potential. Working alongside mentors, we have a team of specialist, outreach teachers who offer targeted 1:1 teaching support across all Key Stages. These teachers are experienced in working with pupils with complex social, emotional, behavioural and medical issues. We aim to give the pupils optimum chance of progressing academically and emotionally so that they can achieve success within their school. Teaching support can take place in the home, a local venue, our Exeter based Centre or within the school setting itself.
We are seeking to recruit enthusiastic, committed individuals who have the qualities to work effectively with children and young people who can, at times, present with challenging behaviour and experience significant barriers to their learning. Empathy, perseverance, personal resilience and creativity are all essential qualities, alongside strong curriculum knowledge. The successful candidate should have experience of working with secondary aged children and a good knowledge and understanding of social, emotional and behavioural difficulties.
As a teacher on the team you must be able to remain calm in challenging situations, show initiative and be confident of lone working in a variety of settings. Excellent communication skills, flexibility and the ability to work with key partners in education and social care are essential.
1-2-1 Mentors are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expect our staff and volunteers to share this commitment. For these posts, pre-employment checks will be carried out and the successful candidates will need to undertake an enhanced DBS check. A driving licence and the use of a car are essential.
