At HMGCC, we like to explore the limits of technology and discover the unexpected. Our systems help protect national security: both at home and overseas. If you’ve got the skills we’re looking for, you’ll find a place in our diverse team.
Your role
You’ll be part of a new, in-house Uniformed Security Team responsible for maintaining the security of our site and buildings. With your friendly, professional customer service skills, you’ll welcome staff and visitors to our organisation and provide a reassuring presence at all times. You’ll conduct security checks, monitor CCTV and the Automated Access Control System (AACS), and carry out patrols across our site. So, an eye for detail is key. Should an alarm go off, or an incident need your attention, you’ll do so calmly and with an open mind. And, you’ll communicate with a wide range of people: from the staff you’ll greet every day, to stakeholders looking for advice on best security practice.
What you need
You’ll have experience in customer service or a public-facing role, as you’ll be welcoming people to our site and making sure they understand the procedures that keep things safe and secure. This’ll be supported by a Grade C/4 or above in GCSE English Language. Importantly, you’ll work well with others and enjoy being part of a team, as you’ll be joining a collaborative, supportive environment where we deal with any issues together. You might even be keen to mentor others as you grow into the role. Flexibility is important too, as you’ll be working on a shift pattern including nights, weekends, and bank holidays.
What we offer
You’ll be given all the training you need to fulfil the role, including support in gaining the required security qualifications. With significant opportunities to further your learning, you’ll also have access to a range of ways to grow your career: from internal courses to a distant learning degree. Plus, you’ll be part of a welcoming, inclusive environment where people from all kinds of backgrounds - with different lived experiences and perspectives - come together. As well as a range of sports and social societies for you to join and meet new people, we’re proud to have a number of affinity groups including disability, LGBTQ+ and ethnic minority networks. It’s all to ensure you feel comfortable bringing your whole self to work. And, you’ll also get access to our excellent on-site facilities, including free 24-hour gym, free parking, and an on-site nursery.
