Technology Security Operations Analyst Level 3 Apprenticeship

Join our AQA Early Careers Scheme as an Apprentice Technology Security Operations Analyst and ensure cyber well-being throughout our business. The Security Operations Team play an important role in defending, investigating, and responding to cyber threats targeting AQA. NCSC reported that there were 2.39million instances of cyber-crime against UK businesses in 2022/23 with education being a prominent target and ransomware the predominant threat.
You’ll study towards a level 3 Cyber Security Technician apprenticeship and gain experience in managing cyber hygiene and monitoring infrastructure. By the end of the programme, you’ll be able to apply your knowledge to appropriate software, technologies, and data analysis. This apprenticeship will give you the opportunity to gain valuable experience in common cyber security tooling and techniques working alongside and learning from dedicated Security Analysts.
What’s involved?
Working in our Security Operations team, you will assist in the investigation of potential cyber threats by interpreting telemetry from a number of deployed tools; assist in the deployment of robust procedures to protect users from cyber based threats; support vulnerability management across the AQA estate and support the penetration testing of AQA systems.
You could also be responsible for:
- Assisting with the development and maintenance of information security controls and procedures
- Monitoring, investigating and resolving technical and cyber security related incidents, collaborating with other teams when required
- Monitoring, reporting and assuring the appropriate application of security related software and firmware updates and patches
- Defining protective monitoring requirements and assisting with their implementation
Who you are
To be eligible for this role, you must have at least 5 GCSEs grade A-C, including Maths and English. Due to the nature of our business and the market we operate in - predominantly A levels and GCSEs – you need to be over the age of 18 years from 1st September 2024 to avoid any potential conflict of interest.
We’re looking for people with the ability to support colleagues of varying technical ability and experience in Cyber Security. You should be able to take accountability for your actions, with the confidence to assess the situation in front of you and provide solutions. Personal qualities we’d like to see also include:
