Job description

You will be teaching English in a small, close-knit school with students aged 11 – 18 who may have found mainstream school a challenge.
With 22 pupils currently on role, you have the time to focus on individual children, building strong relationships where you know things such as their hobbies or interests. This all helps inform teaching and, as a result, pupils who have often become disengaged from learning settle quickly into a caring environment. Consequently, pupils feel secure enough to take part in informal discussions, including listening to the views of others.
Your will plan and deliver English lessons to students in KS3 and KS4 who have social, emotional and behavioural needs. You will need to be confident teaching the subject up to GCSE level in addition to tailoring work to suit individual needs. Class sizes are approximately 4-6 pupils with Learning Mentors to support. The knowledge of SEND frameworks and P-Levels will help enormously in your role as you will need to ensure that your lessons use innovative and engaging approaches, so the students are having fun whilst making progress.
When asked, the staff said the biggest selling point of working here is the team; supportive, friendly and always laughing, even if they’ve had difficult days. You are provided with training opportunities throughout; your colleagues say they feel valued by the school leaders and really value this professional development.
The pupils you work with behave well, they demonstrate appropriate behaviour in lessons and take responsibility for their learning. Pupils also say their behaviour has improved since joining the school and ‘this school is different to other schools as teachers know you and have time for you’.
This School is based in Nuneaton and is recruiting a Permanent English teacher to join its expanding team. You will be supporting pupils across the setting and inspiring them to prepare for life after education.
This is an exciting opportunity to really make a difference to children from diverse backgrounds with individual needs. If you can treat pupils as individuals, get to know them and get the best out of them then please consider applying.
