Role:
We are looking for an experienced Learning Support Assistant to join our clients team based in Solihull.
The Learning Support Assistant’s main role is to provide support for students either 1:1 or in a small group situation who have special educational , social, emotional and behavioural difficulties. The LSA will ensure that the students can integrate and participate as fully as possible in the lessons and make progress.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Supporting students:
- Provide 1:1 and small group learning support.
- Understand student needs, seek advice from relevant personnel, and adapt materials accordingly.
- Maintain an inclusive learning environment.
- Offer positive reinforcement and rewards.
- Facilitate intervention sessions (e.g., reading, emotional literacy).
- Stay updated through training and maintain behavioral documentation.
- Support and lead sports activities/brain breaks.
Supporting school and SENCO needs:
- Collaborate with the team to enhance student well-being and personal development.
- Attend planning meetings and assist in delivering individual learning programs.
- Provide regular feedback to teachers and outside agencies.
- Contribute to students' annual reviews.
- Foster home-school links and communicate effectively.
- Engage in professional development.
- Adhere to school policies and statutory guidelines.
- Maintain confidentiality and follow safeguarding procedures.
- Carry out assigned duties.
Skills and Experience:
- Experience working with children with special educational and emotional needs in a school setting.
- Relevant qualifications in English and Maths.
- NVQ level 2/3 or equivalent in teaching and learning.
- Understanding of social, cultural, and physical needs of students.
- Interest in child learning and behavior.
Skills and Training:
- Completed training in SEMH aspects like Team Teach, Autism, Attachment Disorder.
- First aid training for school settings.
- Ability to follow directions from SENCO, Head Teacher, or Educational Psychologist.
- Strong time management and prioritization skills.
- Productivity and initiative.
- Effective communication with diverse students.
- Motivating students academically and socially.
- Organizational assistance in the learning environment.
- Accurate record-keeping.
- Collaboration with colleagues and community members.
- Exemplifying responsibility and trustworthiness.
- Patience with challenging behavior and flexibility in teaching approaches.
- Respect for confidentiality and safeguarding protocols.
- Computer literacy.
- Commitment to attending relevant training courses.
