Working Pattern: This post is available on a full time, part time or job share basis, and flexible working hours can be accommodated.

The Government Internal Audit Agency (GIAA) provides an invaluable Internal audit service, delivering a large programme of annual risk-based assurance reviews across a wide range of government departments, including 14 main departments and most of their related arm’s length bodies. Supporting our customers to meet their objectives, roles at this level present a fascinating and stimulating challenge.

The Government Internal Audit Agency (GIAA) is once again partnering with Career Returners (previously Women Returners) to launch its second ‘Welcome Back!’ Career Returners Programme. Through this programme, GIAA aims to support people with internal audit and/or accountancy experience, who have been on a career break for 18 months or more, to flexibly re-start their careers and to develop their skills and experience in a supportive and go-ahead environment. The

Welcome Back! Programme will open for applications the day before the Event.
About the Roles

These roles involve undertaking audits on a range of topics, either working individually or with a team of auditors. Experienced auditors are allocated a portfolio of work around a core cluster of customers, while also having the opportunity to broaden their experience by working on new topics or with new customers. With access to high profile work, auditors operate alongside key decision makers, audit specialists and private sector contractors within the Agency, challenging and developing their skills as well as ensuring we meet our customers’ expectations.
About You

  • You will be an experienced professional who has had a career break of 18 months or more (as of Jan 2024).You may have been working small-scale around your other commitments or you may not have done any paid work at all during this period.
  • You are interested in joining a values-led, public-sector organisation and kick-starting the next chapter of your career.
  • GIAA is open to candidates with a broad range of background skills and qualifications. You will:
    • have internal audit experience and hold the CMIIA qualification or
    • have accountancy experience and be a qualified member of one of five CCAB bodies (ICAEW, ACCA, CIPFA, ICAS, Chartered Accountants Ireland or CIMA)
  • In addition, GIAA’s specialist internal audit teams are seeking candidates with appropriate experience and qualifications, including CIPS (for commercial audit), APM (for project and programme management) and ISACA qualifications (for digital, data and technology). These qualifications are indicative rather than exhaustive, and we welcome conversations with candidates with interest and experience in any of these areas.
  • You will have good IT skills, particularly in the use of Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Teams, Word & Excel)

Hybrid Working is available to GIAA colleagues. This means a combination of office working and working from home. This includes time spent in our GIAA office locations and can also include any time spent attending our customers' sites.

GIAA colleagues are expected to work in an office location for three days a week on average (60%). Naturally, this expectation will be applied on a pro-rata basis for people who have a part-time or compressed hours working pattern.
