ABOUT THE ROLE
We are looking for a highly skilled Senior Test Automation Engineer to join our Quality Engineering team. The successful individual will have a proven track record of delivering progress in test automation and a strong working knowledge of programming languages, specifically TypeScript, as well as be familiar with major front end testing frameworks including Playwright, and Cypress.
Reporting to the Continuous Delivery Lead, the successful individual will:
- Design, develop, and maintain automated test frameworks and test suites.
- Identify, advocate for and deliver automation improvements across multiple teams and programmes.
- Identify appropriate tooling and methodology to improve overall automation coverage.
- Work closely with the development team and the business stake holders to ensure that the frameworks are well understood and provide value.
- Provide mentorship and guidance to other team members in test automation principles and best practices.
- Work with the Continuous Delivery Lead to instil a culture of best practice within the team.
- Drive forward a culture of placing automation at the centre of what we do.
- Create understandable but thorough documentation to help others run the frameworks you have built.
Though allocated as a Senior Automation Engineer within the Core Technology team, you will also be part of a Quality Engineering team that spans multiple programmes of work. The team comprises about 25 permanent testers (including 4 team leads), supplemented by a similar number of test consultants and contractors.
Shared responsibilities of everyone on the team:
- Work with stakeholders to determine which features and fixes are critical to the end user and business.
- Evaluate the product & application fitness for purpose by learning about it through exploratory testing and experimentation to complement automated checks.
- Help developers plan and build automated checks at the right levels of the system to provide the optimal return of feedback to cost of ownership of the test suite.
- Partner with everyone from the Business Analyst to the Product Owner to Operations to help ensure that everyone is working towards the goal of delivering a quality working product into Production.
- To champion process improvement, to actively challenge current process and to support and contribute to process improvement initiatives. Promote whole team responsibility for quality.

Minimum criteria:
- Experience with Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) and Agile methodologies.
- Hands-on experience with Playwright and Cypress.
- Familiarity with other testing frameworks and technologies.
- A strong working knowledge of TypeScript.
- You have at least 5 years of experience in the test automation space.
