We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist that has worked at band 6 or band 7 level in cellular pathology for at least 4 years.

  • Do you want to be involved in service expansion and development?  At SBS the service rarely sits still, there is continuous growth and adaption to the market.  There are some projects ongoing that would give staff valuable service change and implementation experience.
  • The role will be multi-disciplinary incorporating general histology, special stains, immunohistochemistry, dissection up to category E.
  • We are however looking for someone to lead at BMS level, the Immunohistochemistry service, increasing the repertoire and upskilling the staff.  This post will work closely with the Senior Scientist for the Additionals section to provide an efficient top-class service.
  • You will also be expected to train in FISH enumeration, expanding reporting skills into other areas such as ER/PR/Her2 and MMR reporting.  Preference will be given to candidates with pre-existing competencies in these areas of reporting, especially of Her2 FISH.
  • You will train and mentor junior staff, trainee BMS staff and apprentices and assist in the development of the scientist team.
  • Interested in laboratory management?  Working in a private laboratory gives insight into running a business and balancing the needs of the customers, the patients, the staff and the stakeholders.  Valuable exposure to anyone wanting to progress in management.
  • Annual salary reviews linked closely to personal objectives.
  • Good location, just off Junction 26 M1.
     

You will be set a training plan and objectives will be set that are aligned to the business objectives.

In addition to technical skills, you will also be jointly responsible with current postholders for coordinating and planning departmental training, and achievements against our quality objectives.

You must be self-motivated, focused, realistic, willing to learn, a team player, good communicator, and show excellent standards of behavior and exhibit leadership qualities.
