The Project
As a highly experienced Senior Buyer, based in Yorkshire, you will support the team by managing and overseeing the procurement of subcontract packages across a number of new build projects. Typical developments range from education, student accommodation, care homes, leisure facilities and industrial with project values in excess of £10m+. You will play a crucial role within the team, ensuring that all packages and materials are procured efficiently and cost-effectively. You will be liaising with both internal and external stakeholders to align procurement, quality, legal, and safety requisites.
Please note that this role offers the option for hybrid working, splitting time between the Yorkshire based office and home.
Requirements
For this role it is essential that you carry the following professional qualifications as a minimum;
- BSc or equivalent in Construction or Civils related field
It is also essential that you hold the experience below;
- Competent IT skills
- Excellent negotiation skills
- Strong communication - written and verbal
- Previously managed budgets and KPI's within the construction industry
- Demonstratable experience in a similar role with a construction background
- Technical proficiency within the building sector, knowledgeable of specialist suppliers

Duties
- Guide and support junior procurement staff
- Establish strategies for continuous risk management
- Recognise and monitor potential contract-related risks
- Consider the impact on the company's profitability and reputation
- Evaluate supplier reliability and compliance using Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
- Negotiate contracts, terms, and conditions with suppliers to secure favorable agreements
- Effectively manage personnel, resources, and relationships to ensure successful delivery
- Ensure adherence to legal, ethical, and regulatory standards in all procurement endeavors
- Liaise with quality assurance teams to ensure that purchased products meet required standards
- Negotiate pricing, payment terms, and delivery schedules to attain cost reductions for the business
- Maintain and execute strategic procurement plans that align with the objectives of the organization
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with suppliers, guaranteeing a dependable and effective supply chain
- Assist the Head of Supply chain in establishing a strategy for the purchasing department that promotes sustainable growth
- Liaise and communicate effectively with stakeholders, in order to gain a mutual understanding of business requirements and forecast future needs
