Job description

We are Centrica! We’re so much more than an energy company. We’re a family of brands revolutionising a cleaner, greener future. Working here is #MoreThanACareer - we’re powered by purpose. Together we can make an impact that will truly change tomorrow. Whether you’re developing cutting-edge green tech, helping customers on the front line or simplifying operations behind the scenes.

Your work here isn’t just a job – it’s a mission. We all play a vital role in energising a greener, fairer future.

We are seeking a Senior Capital Manager who will support our Head of Capital in oversight, day-to-day management and in the development of the Capital Modelling Team. This is a fantastic opportunity for a qualified non-life capital actuary who wants to develop their leadership skills, have exposure to C-level stakeholders and be exposed to non-traditional actuarial work (60/40 mix of BAU to value add work).

Location: With our Flexible First working arrangements we empower our colleagues to work in a way that best suits them – meaning location doesn’t need to be a barrier. This role can be mostly based at home with monthly meetings required at our Centrica sites in either Windsor or London.

We have tailored our well-being & benefits package around our employees as follows;

  • Competitive salary and bonus potential
  • Employee Energy Allowance at 15% of the government price cap
  • Pension scheme
  • Company Funded Healthcare Plan
  • 25 days holiday allowance, plus public holidays, and the option to buy up to 5 additional days
  • Excellent range of flexible benefits, including technology vouchers, electric car lease scheme & travel insurance

Key Accountabilities:

Leading the delivery of the regulatory and economic capital results to the board.

This will involve:

  • Management of the capital team’s processes and delegating work across the team to ensure results are delivered in a robust and timely fashion.
  • Assisting the Head of Capital with analysis and review of model outputs.
  • Liaising with key stakeholders, and coordinating development, production and communication of results to exec committees. They will need to interpret and convincingly articulate the results of the modelling to internal and external audiences.

Additionally you will be involved with:

  • Contributing to non-traditional actuarial projects which involve advanced analytics in the Energy sector (Value Add projects). This will involve identifying opportunities to build bespoke forecasting models/GLMs/broaden the use of existing capital model to provide strategic insights about the business and support commercial decision making in the Energy sector.
  • Working alongside the Head of Capital to build strong relationships with our key stakeholders to ensure the business adopts a balanced approach towards prudential regulatory compliance and risk-optimised growth.
  • Advising the CUO/Commercial Team on pricing and underwriting optimisation-based risk/return profile of products.
  • Providing technical insurance advice to the Finance team to ensure the business meets Solvency II and financial reporting requirements.
  • Support the CFO in the delivery of the insurer’s financial performance and capital management (including repatriation of dividend to Centrica).
  • Providing day to day support to Risk Management i.e. providing advice on risk appetite framework, business planning and dividend proposal options.
  • Advising management on capital implications of strategic initiatives at group level.

Who are we looking for?

  • Strong skills in the management of both people and processes with a proven track record of delivering through others. The role will involve assisting the Head of Capital to lead a team of 6.
  • Good programming experience (VBA, SQL, R). The chosen candidate will be involved in non-traditional actuarial work which will require building bespoke forecasting models/GLMs for the wider group to support decision making.
  • Good communication skill as the role will have significant exposure to the leadership team (CRO/CFO/CUO) and the board.
  • Experience of non-life Capital Modelling techniques and analysis (Tyche or Igloo knowledge highly desirable). Subject to business case approval, we are looking to also do a platform change in the near future.
  • Good understanding of Solvency II requirements.
  • Proactive approach to improving processes and challenging the status quo.

We are proud to be recognised as a disability-confident employer. Our customers come from a variety of different backgrounds, and so do we. We hire great people from all walks of life, not just because it’s the right thing to do, but because it makes our company stronger. We will continue championing inclusivity while investing in our local communities to create a better, more sustainable world for everyone. We are incredibly proud to have been recognised by The Times for being one of the Top 50 Employers for Women.

Our people are the beating heart of our business. We are incredibly proud of our commitment to being FlexFirst. From childcare to furry friends, we listened to our people and understood that they work best when they are comfortable and have a flexible working model that suits their individual needs. We embrace the opportunity to give our colleagues a choice to work from anywhere whilst still ensuring they can connect and engage with their teams through office days, employee networks and virtual events.

We are committed to creating a cleaner and greener future. And we’re making big changes to help us get there. That means cutting customers' emissions and our own to reach net zero. And because our people are the beating heart of our business, we will continue to champion inclusivity, develop future skills and invest in our local communities to create a better world for everyone. As part of our reforestation project with WeForest, for every new employee that joins our family, we plant trees in underprivileged areas in Tanzania to offer farming and wildlife economy opportunities for locals.
