Job description
The position of post-CCT/CCST Senior Clinical Fellow in Advanced Endoscopy is designed to support the Endoscopy Service at the Royal Free Hospital and for the appointee to acquire further specialist Advanced Endoscopy training and academic skills. The post-holder will work alongside consultant gastroenterologists and GI surgeons and will be responsible to the Interventional Endoscopy Lead at the Royal Free Hospital.
The last few years have seen significant developments and expansion in the Gastroenterology provision at the Royal Free which has now become one of the largest NHS institutions in the UK, serving a vast population through 3 major sites.
The gastroenterology department at the Royal Free is also a tertiary provider of advanced endoscopic techniques and physiology tests including:
Double-balloon enteroscopy (DBE) (a service of world repute, which since its establishment in 2012 has become one of the busiest internationally)
Advanced endoscopic resection of mucosal/submucosal lesions (including complex endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR), endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) and endoscopic resection of small neuroendocrine tumours (NETs)
Advanced HPB endoscopy (including ERCP, EUS, direct cholangioscopy)
Endoluminal stent placement
Endoscopic enteral access (including PEG, PEG-J and DBE-DPEJ tube placement)
Transnasal upper GI endoscopy
Capsule endoscopy
Endoscopic bronchial ultrasound (EBUS)

This is a one-year post designed for further training in Advanced Endoscopy while also supporting the endoscopy and GI service. The post-holder would also be required to take part in academic research, audit, the support of 2 clinics and the support of any suitable endoscopy lists as required by the the service. The appointee would also support the co-ordination of the Advanced Endoscopy MDT and the DBE and endoscopic resection services (including communication with external teams).
The post-holder will be supervised by two consultant gastroenterologists (Dr Edward J. Despott)
