Position Overview: As the Senior Commercial Manager for our Rail Division, you will play a pivotal role in overseeing all commercial aspects of our national portfolio of projects, driving the division's success and ensuring profitability. Reporting directly to the Divisional Commercial Director, you will lead a team and collaborate closely with various stakeholders to ensure the effective management of contracts from pre-contract negotiations to project delivery and handback.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee all commercial aspects of the Rail Division's projects, ensuring adherence to budgets, timelines, and quality standards.
- Manage a national portfolio of projects with an annual turnover of approximately £50 million.
- Lead and manage a business unit within the division, ensuring alignment with company goals and strategies.
- Demonstrate strong commercial competencies in negotiating and managing contracts, particularly with NEC, JCT, and ICE forms of contract.
- Provide leadership and guidance to a team of 3 to 4 direct reports, as well as overseeing a wider commercial team of up to 30 individuals.
- Collaborate with project teams to ensure effective pre-contract preparations, including risk assessments, tendering, and contract negotiations.
- Drive the implementation of commercial strategies to optimize project outcomes and mitigate risks.
- Foster strong relationships with clients, suppliers, and subcontractors to enhance project delivery and profitability.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering, or a related field; MBA or relevant postgraduate qualification is preferred.
- Proven experience in a Senior Commercial management role within the rail industry, with a track record of managing a business unit and delivering successful projects.
- In-depth knowledge and experience working with NEC, JCT, and ICE forms of contract.
- Strong leadership and people management skills, with experience leading and developing high-performing teams.
