Job Title: Senior Data Engineer

Contract Type: Permanent

Location: Alderley Edge or Edinburgh

Working style: Hybrid 50% home/office based

Closing date: 31st March 2024

 

We are currently seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Data Engineer to join our leading insurance business. As a Senior Data Engineer, You will play a critical role in the design, development, and maintenance of our data infrastructure and architecture. 

 

You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure efficient data management and processing and contribute to the development of innovative data-driven solutions.

 

The successful candidate will possess a strong technical background, ideally with experience in SQL, Python and CI/CD tools. We are transforming our business, to a cloud based infrastructure, so experience with Azure and AWS is beneficial for the role. We are also, looking for, exceptional problem-solving skills, and the ability to work in a dynamic and fast-paced environment. The team is growing with a focus on career development and progression within the business, so this is an exciting time to join a leader within the industry.

About the role

 

  • Design and implement scalable and robust data pipelines to extract, transform, and load data from various sources.
  • Collaborate with data scientists and analysts to develop data models, algorithms, and statistical analyses.
  • Optimize and tune database queries, ensuring optimal performance and reliability.
  • Evaluate and select appropriate tools and technologies to enhance data processing capabilities.
  • Develop and maintain documentation on data integration processes, data flows, and data lineage.
  • Implement and enforce data governance policies and procedures to ensure data accuracy and integrity.
  • Stay current with industry trends and advancements in Data Engineering, recommending, and adopting best practices.

 

About you

 

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, Data Engineering, or a related field. 
  • Minimum of 3-5 years' experience in Data Engineering, with a focus on data pipeline development and data integration.
  • Strong proficiency in programming languages such as Python and CICD tools or Databricks.
  • In-depth knowledge of SQL and relational databases, including database design and query optimization.
  • Familiarity with cloud-based data platforms, such as AWS or Azure.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to analyse complex data sets and identify patterns and trends.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams.
