Job Description

We’d all like amazing work to do, and real work-life balance. That’s waiting for you at Sainsbury’s. From fragrance to car care, clothing and pots and pans, our General Merchandise team delivers all the non-food items for Sainsbury’s, Habitat and Argos customers. This multi-brand environment means you get to work across most areas. You can also be a pioneer, because the team believes in being brave, iterating and learning as they go. They also develop deep connections to other departments, which opens up a lot of different career opportunities for you. What’s certain is that you’ll spend time on the shop floor to get closer to customers, and bring a broad perspective and the full support of your manager with you wherever you decide to develop next.

Why join us
Joining our team as a Senior Designer in Print, Pattern, and Trend at Sainsbury's offers an exciting opportunity to be part of a collaborative and innovative environment. As a key member of our design team, you will have the chance to lead and mentor a team of creative designers, driving the creation and development of successful product ranges across Home and Furniture. With access to a diverse and complex dataset, you will utilise your expertise in trend forecasting to deliver innovative and commercially viable designs that resonate with our customers. We value creativity, collaboration, and continuous learning, providing ample opportunities to sharpen your skills and stay ahead of market trends. With a flexible work-life balance and a supportive work environment, joining our team means being part of an inclusive and dynamic organisation that values your contributions and offers opportunities for growth within the retail industry.

What you'll do As a Senior Designer in Print, Pattern, and Trend with our team, you will play a crucial role in driving the creation and development of successful product ranges, taking responsibility for leading a team of creative designers. Based in both our Coventry office and remotely at home, you will curate commercial design direction packs for the Sainsbury's group of brands, ensuring the highest quality and functionality. Your expertise in identifying current trends and showcasing innovative thinking will contribute to the growth of our design strategy across Home and Furniture. Additionally, you will collaborate with product development teams, technologists, and buyers to meet critical path targets, while adhering to safety, quality, and legal requirements. As a mentor to junior team members, you will nurture talent and continually enhance their skills. With a strong awareness of market trends and competitor ranges, you will deliver forward-thinking, commercially relevant design directions and trends each season. You will represent the design team in meetings, present design visions to stakeholders, and utilise analysis of market data to inform design decisions. Furthermore, you will stay updated on customer behaviours and shopping trends, visit stores and trade shows, compile reports, and contribute to PR and marketing activities. Acting as a cross-functional collaborator, you will work closely with other teams to align on range direction and category needs within trend, while also considering sales performance to guide future design directions.

Who you are
As a Senior Designer in Trend, Print, and Pattern for our multi-brand business, you are a highly skilled and experienced creative professional with a strong passion for design and trend forecasting in the Home and Furniture sector. With a minimum of 5 years in a comparable senior role and a track record of delivering innovative and commercially successful product ranges, you possess a deep understanding of market trends, customer behaviours, and manufacturing processes. Your ability to curate design direction packs, lead a team of designers, and collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders showcases your exceptional communication and influencing skills. With a strong eye for detail and a commitment to meeting critical path targets, you consistently deliver high-quality design packs while ensuring adherence to safety, quality, and legal requirements. Your flexibility, creative problem-solving abilities, and knowledge of retail and consumer trends make you an invaluable asset in driving our design strategy forward and meeting the needs of our customers.

Work-life balance is important to us, so we offer our colleagues as much flexibility as possible in line with the needs of their role. We trust them to decide how, where and when they work, combining remote and collaborative working with a flexible approach to hours, giving them plenty of time and space for life outside of work whilst delivering against our business goals.

We are committed to being a truly inclusive retailer, so you’ll be welcomed whoever you are and wherever you work. Around here, there’s always the chance to try something new - whether that’s as part of an evolving team or somewhere else across the business - and we take development seriously and promise to support you. We also recognise and celebrate colleagues when they go the extra mile and, where possible, offer flexible working. When you join our team, we’ll also offer you an amazing range of benefits. Here are some of them:
Starting off with colleague discount, you'll be able to get 10% off at Sainsbury's, Argos, TU and Habitat after 4 weeks. This increases to 15% off at Sainsbury’s every Friday and Saturday and 15% off at Argos every pay day. We've also got you covered for your future with our pensions scheme and life cover. You'll also be able to share in our success as you may be eligible for a performance-related bonus of up to 20% of salary, depending on how we perform.
Your wellbeing is important to us too. You'll receive an annual holiday allowance, and you can buy additional holiday. We also offer other benefits that will help your money go further such as season ticket loans, interest free car loan of up to £10k, cycle to work scheme, health cash plans, pay advance (where you can access some of your pay before pay day) as well access to a great range of discounts from hundreds of other retailers. And if you ever need it there is also an Employee Assistance Programme, you will also be eligible for private healthcare too.
Moments that matter are as important to us as they are to you which is why we give up to 26 weeks’ pay for maternity or adoption leave and up to 4 weeks’ pay for paternity leave.
Please see www.sainsburys.jobs for a range of our benefits (note, length of service and eligibility criteria may apply).
