We are now recruiting for the exciting role of Senior Electrical, Control & Instrumentation Engineer, to be involved in an industry leading, cutting-edge project for a new type of power station.

The role is suited to a degree-qualified electrical or controls and Instrumentation Engineer with over 10 years of experience related to the physical integration of electrical, controls and Instrumentation. You will be supporting the integration of the electrical, controls and instrumentation safety systems into modules within the Reactor Island of the Rolls-Royce SMR modular product.
The role will involve taking design information from key stakeholders and combining the information to create a physically integrated electrical, controls and instrumentation assembly.
You will work in a multi-disciplinary team, providing feedback to the system designers to ensure the build certainty philosophy of the SMR product is maintained throughout their system designs.
As a senior member of the team, you will be expected to guide and mentor junior engineers to help them develop their full potential.
Key Results & Achievements

  • Progress the design & integration between electrical, controls and instrumentation related modules through our Design Review process.
  • Proactively engaging with stakeholders to capture requirements and assumptions.
  • Understand the nature of the risks applicable to Reactor Island installations and make decisions in accordance with this understanding and the programme risk.
  • Working with due regard to Health, Safety and Environment to ensure that work complies with all necessary corporate, business, and legislative requirements and procedures.
  • Working alongside installation component, layout, and CAD engineers to develop module clusters which meet all applicable system, component and transverse requirements.
  • Ensure that quality is maintained throughout the SMR project lifecycle by undertaking appropriate technical reviews and providing the required inputs to the main project technical review gates.
  • Support the development of product configuration and data management.


Knowledge of the application of risk management, data-driven manufacturing, installation process improvement and installation/construction schedules and planning are highly desirable.
Experience in the design of nuclear electrical, controls and instrumentation systems is highly desirable, but not mandated. Applicants with wider industry experience in the application of electrical, controls and instrumentation design of systems will also be considered.

Design Experience:

  • Displayed examples of having led and implemented physical electrical, controls and instrumentation installations, particularly of multiple safety class systems.
  • Proven experience in the delivery and implementation of complex electrical, controls and instrumentation design solutions with diverse stakeholders and requirements.
  • Have a clear understanding of varied electrical, controls and instrumentation systems within a wide project scope which integrate and interface with one another and can demonstrate the ability to effectively manage these elements.
  • Logical problem-solving and strong engineering design decision-making will be crucial in this role to arrive at the optimal arrangement and design of the modular solution.
  • Familiarity with relevant industry standards and regulations pertaining to EC&I.
  • Provide baseline design examples of electrical, controls and instrumentation installations.


Systems Engineering Understanding:
The role will require skills and experience in the following areas:

  • Requirements management
  • Stakeholder management
  • Technical and programme risk management
  • Design for through-life operation, fault scenarios and EMIT
  • Commercial Design Review process


Through Life Considerations:

  • Experience in the development of design solutions from initial concept through to detailed design definition using a robust Design methodology.
  • Experience of Design for manufacture and trade-off /optioneering studies to ensure an optimum design solution is achieved.
  • Knowledge of design for protection against internal and external hazards.


Cabling and Distribution

  • There will be a need to work closely with the layout and cabling teams, experience of working with teams that deliver cable design, installation and commissioning of plant-wide EC&I systems is desirable.

Project Management


  • Adhering to project timelines, ensuring seamless progression through design gates, and having experience in planning high-level through to detailed design development tasks.


Pay and Benefits
We anticipate paying a salary of between 50,000 & 62,000, plus:-

  • Bonus - Performance related bonus of up to 12.5%
  • Benefits Allowance - 2,200, enabling you to create a bespoke package
  • Pension - 12% employer and 6% employee contributions.
  • Holidays - 28 days holiday (+ public holidays) and the ability to buy or sell up to 4 days
  • Private Medical Insurance - BUPA single cover health care
  • Life Assurance - 6x pensionable pay
  • 250 - One-off payment for new starters for home office purchases
