Your work with us

When you join us in this important role, you’ll be a member of our Access and Benefit Sharing Team, which leads on the implementation of legislation relating to the sharing of benefits arising out of the use of genetic resources. It will be your task to undertake enforcement work to ensure that products placed on the UK market are compliant with the legislation, take the lead on your own investigations, and support other OPSS teams with their work. Creating, maintaining and managing clear communication channels with businesses, trade bodies and other organisations, you’ll deliver supportive, concise and effective advice on your area of expertise.

But your work won’t stop here – key to your success will be the creation of positive relationships throughout our organisation and identifying opportunities that add value to your work, and you’ll also develop specialist knowledge in your area of expertise with a view to providing a national enforcement perspective to your colleagues, policy sponsors and other agencies. Undertaking activities in accordance with the Regulators’ Code and the OPSS’ Enforcement Policy, you’ll review market information, technical files and other documentation across a range of legislation. We’ll also expect you to develop your expertise and explore innovative ways to increase our capabilities as an exemplar regulator.

Who we’re looking for

With a Level 4 Regulatory Compliance Officer Apprenticeship qualification or its equivalent (or the expectation that you’ll achieve this within the next couple of months) you’ll have a degree or its equivalent in a biological, natural sciences or ecology-based subject. It’s important that you have some experience of investigatory work in the fields of regulation, enforcement or compliance, and in addition to strong problem solving abilities, you should have excellent analytical skills and outstanding attention to detail.

Highly flexible and capable of adapting quickly to changing workloads and priorities, you’ll be ready to contribute to and support the delivery of multi-faceted work plans. Your excellent communication and interpersonal skills will make you a superb team-player, and in addition to the ability to research, understand and assess technical information, you’ll be capable of filtering and prioritising data with a view to understanding its relevance to the investigative process. You should also hold a full UK driving licence, although if you do not have one due to a protected characteristic, this will be taken into account.
