The Scottish electricity transmission network is undergoing an ambitious transformation as we move towards a greener future. Within the Transmission Network department of the Network Planning and Regulation Directorate, the System Analysis team carry out power system modelling, simulation, and analysis to support this goal. We perform a variety of studies to support network planning, the connection of new generators, and large projects such as HVDC links.
What you'll be doing
As Senior Engineer, you will carry out power system studies and analysis to assess various aspects of the transmission network and generator performance.
You will:
Assess the transmission system for compliance with planning and operational standards.
Contribute to the creation, maintenance, and validation of transmission network simulation models and datasets.
Contribute to technically challenging transmission projects, such as the application of new technologies or the investigation of unusual network disturbances.
Support network planning processes by evaluating reinforcement scheme options.
Liaise with customers about their network connection, particularly regarding code compliance aspects.
Support connection applications by providing network information or analysis results.
Provide technical engineering support across SP Energy Networks.
Take part in industry working groups.
What you'll bring
You will demonstrate a strong background in electrical power system analysis and design, including experience in setting up and carrying out load flow and fault calculations in at least one power systems simulation computer application.
You will have a good understanding of the electrical characteristics and performance of power system equipment.
Knowledge of how the GB electricity industry is regulated would be an advantage, as would a good understanding of the commercial aspects of power system design and operation.
You will have good communication skills with the ability to write clear reports and give informative presentations.
Along with being degree educated, you will be working towards chartered membership of the IET or equivalent.
Minimum Requirements
Degree in Electrical Engineering or relevant experience.
Experience in power system design and analysis, including the use of power system analytical software.
Knowledge and experience of one or more of the following would be an advantage: HVDC, power system harmonics, electromagnetic transient studies, control systems.
