You will join our team within the world-renowned Optical Fibre Fabrication Group at the Optoelectronics Research Centre (ORC), Southampton University. This is a varied position offering you the opportunity to apply your specialist knowledge and expertise in a research and enterprise environment. You will be responsible for resolving technical issues and equipment operations along with developing procedures and protocols to ensure the working environment is safe and in line with safety standards for staff, researchers, subcontractors, and visitors.
In addition, you will apply your mechanical and electrical knowledge to repair items and contribute to the development of equipment capabilities. There will be a requirement to monitor cleanroom equipment and infrastructure and carry out regular service maintenance and calibration schedules to maintain the accuracy of fabrication output and contribute to organising large equipment projects by using specialist knowledge and experience of installation.
You will demonstrate a skill level equivalent to the achievement of an HND, NVQ4 or Degree in Physics/Chemistry/Materials Science/Engineering or a related discipline and experience of working in an engineering environment or basic professional qualification and be experienced in working within a cleanroom environment. It is also essential that you have proven experience in maintaining facilities and resolving process equipment and service users’ issues.
