Overview of the role:
To further support the growth and demands in the business to produce more structurally capable and lightweight off highway machinery, we are looking to hire a Senior Engineer specialised in structures and fatigue. An ideal candidate would have experience with wheeled loading shovels and an understanding of strain gauge testing and FEA. (Experience with other machines also considered)
Your Responsibilities as a Senior Engineer – Structures:
The successful candidate would be responsible for the structural validation and risk mitigation of off highway vehicles. They will contribute to the duty profile and testing thereof, conduct fatigue risk assessments and provide design recommendations to the relevant business unit. Other responsibilities include:
- Consistently interpret CAD weld drawings and FEA to define complex gauge classifications to prepare metadata for testing and analysis.
- Update, maintain and use structures life matrices and simulation loadcase document to mirror the duty profile and in field use.
- Produce strain gauge drawings using CAD positions using FEA and intuition, supervise others to collect field data with standard & non routine processes.
- Can define universal sensor creation (load cell, bolt gauges)
- Conduct detailed analysis of field data through standard and non-standard nCode flows to determine estimation of fatigue life.
- Proficient with nCode glyphworks, Simens NX (or other CAD package), Altair and Microsoft Office programmes.
About you:
- A degree in Automotive, Mechanical engineering or equivalent education/experience.
- Understands materials & their effect on allowable stresses with a deep understanding of fatigue & life Prediction of both Welded & Bolted joints.
- A demonstrated ability to influence rational decision making to resolve complex structural problems under pressure on multiple projects.
- Able to propose creative applications of engineering calculations and first principles to innovative design recommendations to reduce stress/ strain levels.
- An effective communicator - can explain technical and commercial information clearly and briefly to leaders.
- Can plan, organize, and adapt in a fast-paced changing environment adjusting decision making accordingly, working cross-functionally with a team success mentality.
- Commercially astute considering the broader consequences of your decisions to deliver complex technical projects on time and within budget.
- A demonstrated ability to apply engineering knowledge and skill reliably and effectively in and outside of your core competence.
- Establish relationships and foster professional trust with the wider company, customers, suppliers, and regulatory bodies.
