Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust’s finance division is looking for aSenior Finance Business Partner,and seeks a motivated individual to develop their career in a Foundation Trust with a reputation for excellence, innovation and development. The Trust has a turnover of £750m and employs 10,000 staff. This is a chance for the successful individual to utilise personal and professional skills to their full extent in this challenging and fast moving environment.
The finance division holds the North West Finance Skills Development Towards Excellence accreditation at level 3, the highest attainable. The division also holds the FFF level 3 accreditation. We believe that these are endorsements of our continuous improvement policy to provide the Trust with the best possible service from the finance division.
You will be CCAB or CIMA qualified. You will be able to demonstrate knowledge and experience in Financial Management. You will need to be a forward thinking proactive individual who will also ensure that decisions made are in the best interest of the organisation and will lead their team in supporting the strategic direction of the Finance Directorate and the Trust.
Interviews will be held the week commencing the 26th of February.
You will be responsible for the successful delivery on the provision of the financial advice service, to the appropriate division, for both income and expenditure.
The main objective of the role is to act strategically and ensure that the division manages its resources, within the approved budget and strives to improve financial performance, whilst delivering a qualitative service to patients. Responsibilities include investigating & advising on highly complex business management issues in order to improve financial awareness, performance and to ensure the efficiency, effectiveness, integrity and business focus of the appropriate division.
Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust forms one of the major acute Trusts in the North West with a complement of over 1000 beds for a local population of 390,000 and a regional population of 1.5 million. We have all of the usual specialties as well as being a Tertiary Centre for Lancashire and South Cumbria in Neurosciences, Trauma, Oncology, and Renal Medicine.

• To actively develop and manage internal relationships and work with Divisional leads, Directorate leads, Transformation Director & team, Financial Advisors and key stakeholders, ensuring full clinical and non-clinical engagement.
• To be responsible for own continual professional development and that of all direct reports. To be actively engaged in developing staff within the team and providing training & support to operational managers on financial issues.
• Responsibility for management of human resources in accordance with all trust policies.
• Take the lead within the Division to develop and maintain service line reporting in ensuring that income and costs are appropriately allocated to speciality/departmental level.
• Effectively manage and maintain the budgetary control system for both income and expenditure to enable the Directorates and the Trust to achieve targets.
• Take the lead for the Division in advising and recommending alternative courses of action to improve financial performance. Ensure the financial advisory service is efficient and effective.
• Produce achievable financial plans for the Division in conjunction with the operational managers and inform the Assistant Finance Director of the implications.
• Produce realistic forecast income and expenditure positions for the Division in conjunction and agreement with the divisional Director. Provide information to the division to ensure corrective actions are agreed for any deviations from plan.
• Provide overall management and supervision to all activities undertaken within the Divisional Financial Management Team so that services are provided in an efficient manner consistent with necessary timescales.
• Deputise for the Assistant Finance Director or Deputy Head of Financial Management in their absence as required.
• Adopt a Business Partner/customer relationship manager approach with the divisions and clinical colleagues, developing collaborative relationships to identify and analyse business problems and implement effective solutions.
• Contribute to the financial agenda of the Trust.
• Be responsible for the implementation of a defined Finance strategic work stream or projects, as required.
• To timely provide a range of complex reports to the Assistant Finance Director (Financial Management) and Executive Team on financial performance for their division.
