The role
As a Senior Geotechnical Consultant based at our Oxfordshire head office, you will be responsible for analysing and interpreting geological, geotechnical and geophysical data which enables our clients to make informed decisions during the engineering, design and construction phases of infrastructure development projects, ultimately reducing project risk and costs. You will participate in client meetings in various environments to understand their challenges and ground related risk, and tailor advice by using Fugro’s innovative solutions. You will prepare and oversee reports for multiple projects and clients under the guidance and supervision of subject matter experts. Also, you will ensure that commitments to clients are met in terms of budget, schedule, and quality, and maintain close relationships with our clients during the project and beyond.
You may be asked to assist Proposal Managers with the preparation of proposals in line with Client’s expectations and assist Business Development Managers with the promotion of Fugro’s engineering capabilities. You will oversee a small team of Geotechnical Consultants, and from time-to-time, you will attend site to review data acquisition and train junior members of staff.
Senior Consultants are encouraged to attend industry meetings/conferences to ensure continued professional development and effective client exposure.
Who we’re looking for:
Essential
  • Previous experience as a consultant with active connections within the industry;
  • A degree or similar qualification in Earth Sciences or Geotechnical Engineering;
  • Actively pursuing chartership through an appropriate professional institution or having achieved Chartered Engineer/Geologist status;
  • Strong understanding of UK geology, soil and rock mechanics and capability to assess the ground related risks;
  • Capable to generate cross sections and develop ground models in 3D;
  • Good hands-on experience of appropriate engineering software and databases;
  • Capable to steer and develop a small sized consultancy team;
  • Capable of generating a safe and quality-based culture within the team;
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal; ability to influence the clients technically;
  • A good team player and able to form working relationships with clients and colleagues at all levels;
  • Full UK Driving licence.
Desirable
  • MSc or PhD in Engineering Geology/Soil Mechanics/Geotechnics;
  • Ability to interpret surface geophysical data and integrate multi-disciplinary datasets.
